I would love to have that car. It is a part of Customs evolution and history. It might not please the today crowd but it pleases me because it was built in an era that is now gone. So before you bash do some research and you will see the backbone of what we are doing now. I have to agree with John Denich it is what it is and you can't change it. History.

The front has always reminded me of a Facel Vega. Personally not my style, but an important representative of that particular era of customs.

Don't get me wrong that thing is one of the fugliest Custom Cars ever built..I agree. But the Historical value is all it will be.

  6. Very true.

If I bought it, I'd end up being hated and receiving death threats, because I'd immediately start cutting on that historical sucker to un-fugly it.

It's got potential, but it is crying out for a sawzall and someone who hasn't recently dropped acid.

  7. i like it better with the taller grille i think its body is sectioned too much and i cant get into the headlight treament or the windshield other then that its cool for what it is would i own it? no but i can appreciate what the builder did and his abillitys

i hate laying frame and really dont care for wide whites except on the right car (1954 and earlier in most cases) dont like airbags, c notches, rusty shit with no paint or floorboards wheels bigger then 16inches in diameter unless they were stock (20's-30's) and hate rubberband sidewalls

  8. Ya know some pretty talented guys obviously spent untold hours making that car, but no amount of sugar coating is going to make that thing pretty. Just doesn't do it for me!!

Beauty they say is only skin deep but ugly is clear to the bone....or in this case the frame maybe. This baby should be thrown out with the bath water.

I think that's EXACTLY what happened here. Look at Moriarity's post about finding the Crespo coupe. People couldn't trip over their manhood fast enough to congratulate him on his great find. The reality is, that car is as Fugly as this one in many ways. Heck, no offense to hotrod1940 since I believe he may have been a previous owner, but there are even parts of the El Matador that don't make it for me.
The point is though, all 3 were ground breaking SHOW CARS going for as many points as they could. Thus, all the outrageous modificatons. In some ways, their outrageousness probably helped put an end to the traditional customs

there's someone out there who wants to bring her to her former glory.there's no way she wouldn't get the trophy for most talked about car at any show.I can see now in lazier red with white walls and dog dish center caps siting low,and i can hear that Buick engine roaring to life for the first time (can you hear her ??) won't somebody help this poor little orphan out ! LOL -remember- a 100 years from now she'll still be around and we'll all be gone -and they'll look at her and say -" what where they thinking " who ever get's her will be the talk on the town,it sure is fun being able to bring her out - once more Tom PS look at my profile on racingjunk for some of my previous and current ride's

Your slick polished marketing pitch isnt helping this car.

  17. Thin skin huh John? Too bad, you are/were a great resource here. Quitters never prosper. I would love to see you be active and start some Custom threads. It seems like quite a few of the hardcore custom guys like to bitch that this place is too hot rod, but then they don't have anything to put up so they shut up.

sorry all us Johnny come latelys are ruining things for you John...but I agree with Metalshapes in that rather than moaning, better to start threads. There is more than a couple of really great threads on Kustoms on here though.
It seems (to me at least))that since the GNRS Kustoms Then and Now show theres been a slowing of momentum regards Kustoms and many of the better known guys like yourself aren't posting as much.
    That concerns me.

  19. Well how could he have been traditional without arms sleeved with tats ? :D:cool: Seriously, I can appreciate the talent and to some degree the style. If different is what he was shooting for he hit the mark.

Acctually, I think Jeff said that, not me.

And although I dont disagree with that, it looks like John has made up his mind.

  25. One of the reasons I quit coming on, besides 50+ year old wannabe internet bully jackasses , is that radical customs get no love at all, and every time one appears the thread is about 90% hating on the car.

This car looks like it's inspired more by sports cars than anything else, the section job, the wire wheels, etc. - they just left the top on it instead of cutting it off like the backyard guys did. It actually in a way inspires how I want to do the front of my '50 Chevy, for that matter. I get tired of seeing the same things done the same way over and over and over again, just like you can only see so many red '32 Fords with small block Chevy motors in them.

A radical custom that still gets a reaction forty something years later, how cool is that! Its a car of its era pushin the limits of style and taste.
Like it or not its the real thing.
