I'm running a Carter AFB 9625 625 CFM on my 302 with that pump and no regulator and it works fine,if a regulator were needed the Holley unit would be good because you could install a pressure gauge in one port and see the pressure as you adjust it. The Carter 9625 is the early version of the Edelbrock 1406. You could try it without a regulator first the Holley and other pumps are higher pressure units in most cases this model Carter states "no pressure regulator needed."

Thanks to ALL for your ideas. Weather has turned cold here in Northern KY and I've moved my 54 inside for the winter. I'm not 100% sure, but feel fairly confident that I've solved the problem. When/If we get some decent weather in the next few weeks :) , I'll do a good test drive to confirm. I think the cause was a combination of a number of perfect storm situations including intake manifold and transmission modulator line vacuum leaks, and clogged air/fuel mixture screws/circuits. It is running much better now that those issues are resolved. Again, I appreciate everyone offering time and knowledge, and I'll check back in after I'm 100% sure I have squished all the little gremlins. I hope everyone enjoys the XMAS holidays.

Great, glad to hear it may be fixed. Its getting cold here also. Fortunately we only have a few months of it compared to the folks up north.
