Any help identifying this steering wheel? It's steel, flat dish sprint wheel.jpg and nearly 18" o.d. Equal spaced spokes, and note the flats where the spokes meet. Allegedly removed from a Miller sprint car during restoration (because it didn't belong there, of course). I'm guessing it's from the 60's?

I made one by rolling a piece of 1” tubing and weld in a couple of SBC connecting rods. Cut down a ‘35 Ford horn button.

  6. This one is in my possession. It’s a bit rough, but pretty cool. Obviously a pontiac, I am guessing early fifties, but would benefit from a confirmation. Would it be wrong to put it in a model A? It is just over 17 inches wide. 015C97A1-D291-463F-8917-DF2A90E21777.jpeg

This us the cut down steering wheel in my 49 Buick. I cut the center out of the big wheel and welded it into a early Camaro oval shaped wheel. My buddies 0726211542.jpg did the plastic and paint work.

Pretty sure this wheel is specifically for 1951-1952 Canadian Pontiac only, here's a pic of a '52 Fleetleader model with the same wheel. 51-52 US Pontiac used a different wheel, this one is based on the 51-52 Chevy wheel, and I think you could use the Chevy horn ring with it (it's supposed to be a full diameter ring)

In the same queue as a Covico is a play on the first generation Corvette wheel… Grant was emulating this second generation design : 279601B6-D842-4E54-8D95-2E0BC0FED1F0.jpeg

This is a repopped Crestliner, 16" diameter, that I had hydro-dipped in a white marble finish. Not too bad.

The 1st 3 pictures are from Hershey 2021. Glad 2 be back but pickins' were a little slim. I watched the improperly restored 4t Chevy Wheel change hands for $1800 cash. The row of wooden wheel numbered over 100. The last picture is my un-restored 40 Chevy Spinner Accessory wheel..

    Hello,

How to keep a little toddler from wandering away and be in sight of his dad? We had set up our backyard with a redwood/cedar sandbox, a redwood/cedar, two level, fort/battleship/airplane/fire station structure with a trap door, and a huge big wheel riding course all around the single story house. But, where does our little toddler like to be when I am at home? In the garage wandering around my tools, cabinets and car projects.

When the garage door is open during my car/skateboard/scooter projects, there was a tendency to look at who was walking on the sidewalk, the cars "whoosing by” and just stuff in the front yard driveway. My project work time had to be quick and done, before the toddler creativity got so much that he would tend to take a stroll or two.

My wife had her things to do inside of the house and it was time to spend with dad, for our toddler. Those times were interesting, but he needed something near me so I could watch and get my projects finished. I decided to get some steering wheels to add to the lower front doors of our garage cabinets.
    upload_2021-12-16_4-41-25.png

We went to the LB Vets Stadium Swap Meet in those old days to pick up some steering wheels. Back in those days, most of the vendors were people who cleared out their garages and not the get rich, quick, commercial vendors.

So, my wife and I decided to use a wooden storage cabinet for part of his play toys, while dad worked on cars or built skateboard scooters on his workbench. The steering wheels were mounted and the acceleration or sound of motors was “kid” provided.
upload_2021-12-16_4-42-35.png unfinished all pine wooden cabinet
A small 8 inch deep dish wheel was mounted on each right side door. A normal 10 inch wheel on the left side. They were in good condition from the swap meet and cost so much less than at Pep Boys.

Being safety conscious, the wheels were not going to pinch little fingers while spinning. They also did not hinder passage in front of the cabinet walkway. So, if he had friends over to play, they could each have a steering wheel. My work counter was just steps away.

When I built this all-smooth, finished cedar/redwood backyard fort/climber for my son, he enjoyed it to no end. It was hard to keep him from staying outside all day and only coming in for lunch or snacks. Once he figured out he could take his snacks in a little cooler, he was in 7th heaven out there.
    upload_2021-12-16_4-44-28.png
The structure was a multi-story climber. It had a top viewing level, a short ladder platform half way down and a bench in the shade for his snack area. It was built into a small hill/slope, so there was one more level as the slope reached the sidewalk. To get to the lower sloping ground for a feel of being in a cave, I built in a short ladder and a trap door on the platform.
    upload_2021-12-16_4-45-4.png

The tallest tower had different plumbing parts to be whatever it gets to be. A swiveling fire hose, or machine gun or telescope were the main uses. Finally, below the tallest tower, was the main ship communication area. A real old wall phone, a shift lever and an old Moon Steering Wheel for those fast getaways…
    upload_2021-12-16_4-45-56.png
We always wanted our son to play with stuff we got for him and this old wheel had been in the garage attached to an old tool cabinet door. One made it to the newly structured fort and the other one stayed on the cabinet. The remaining one on the cabinet was an 8 inch deep dish lowrider wheel that I tried attaching it to some scooters I made.

upload_2021-12-16_4-46-32.png This Moon Equipment Co. steering wheel made it to the newly created clear Cedar wooden structure.

    Note:

Many years later, when our son was in college, he came home and decided that the fort/climber should not be up, if and when we sold the house. So, he was standing there as I went to get my tools to disassemble the whole structure. When I came around the corner, he was standing there in his college attire, with a tear in his eye... memories still play an important part of everyone's lives.

We had great smelling cedar fires for the next several months in our fireplace and when we went to the nearby campfire pits at the beach.

Steering wheels? The dreams starts with something as simple as a plastic wheel attached to a baby stroller to a real life Moon Equipment authentic wheel on a play structure... Dreams and memories are endless streams of enjoyment with some creativity for the young minds.
