Has anyone used an ultrasonic cleaner for carbs, etc? I've always used the dip and the spray in conjunction. Always looking for a better way to clean smalls
I have two ultrasonic cleaners which I use for carbs. One is actually made for jewelry but it does a good job on the small parts.
Just for $#!+$ and giggles, what's a good source for a not ridiculously expensive ultrasonic cleaner? Carburetor size.
Absolutely! I have the small one from The Harbor and it made my Harley carb look brand new. It won’t fit a four barrel, but they have a larger one now. I used a little Simple Green in the water and had to run it several cycles, but it proved the concept to me and I’ll buy the bigger one.
Rebuild two this spring and used Extreme Simple Green Aviation mixed 50/ 50 with water, Carbs came out spotless.
If you use Simple Green on aluminum make sure yiu get the one safe for Aluminum. The original green stuff is not very friendly. I use SG in my ultrasonic washer too but change it out for certain components. Dawn dish soap or white vinegar work well the the ultrasonic cleaner too.
It is the one I have. Did my Carter WA-1's in it. Most of a carb will fit. I did the cast iron bases in a sep load.
Watch out for online ultrasonic cleaners, there are "real" ones, which use a high frequency transducer, and others which just have a small DC motor with an off-balance weight attached to the shaft, which just vibrate at a fraction of what the real ones do. Usually the cheap battery operated ones are phonies. You can build your own on the cheap, have a look at Youthtube, there are some good ones there.
