Hot Rods Under Floor, MC, Access Panel.......

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by INVISIBLEKID, Sep 11, 2018.

  1. Hey- Looking for some idea's of panel's to get to the MC through the floor in my roadster. Many options available..... I'de like to see what the brotherhood has come up with, with YOUR ride.
I can do anything, as in screws, dzus, magnetic, and the ole' piano hinge.....
I might just copy yours, or spin a lil on your ideas... Flattery on your part.....
    Care to share?
This isn't going Street Rod shit, with plush carpet, and all......
I'm very function over form on this, and cosmetics will work around function.
I have to blow a hole in the floor plate, and am looking for suggestions/idea's, etc.....
    Thanks -Kid

    Rubber mat will secure it.

I thought someone just started a thread about a week ago on this(?). At any rate, you can go real low tech with sheet metal screws holding down a lid, however Rock Valley makes some really nice, hinged access door assemlies that could be welded (or riveted, screwed) in place.

Used some scrap sheetmetal around the shop, bead rolled it, welded a small strip to the backside to trap the floor pan between the cover and that small strip. Drilled a single hole and used a rubber expansion nut to hold it in place. Easy.

I decided Im to lazy to bend over, lift up crap, unscrew junk and then poor brake fluid so i dont get it everywhere. I know its not that challenging but I know me and I know I would just put it off.

So i just got a remote cap and reservoir. Basically like below.

If you have that resevoir mounted above the MC (like pictured above), you better make sure the gasket is mated to a smooth machined surface on the top of the MC. Or else you are going to have one hell of a mess. GRAVITY!

  11. 1) Metal floor.
    2) Rectangular hole with a flanged edge.
    3) Screw-on cover.

I built a steel surround that I drilled and tapped for the bolts that secure the lid. I'm a neat freak and don't like nut zerts and hardware showing. Here is a pic of the undercar showing the surround I plug welded to the floor.

The cover is aluminum and the holes are countersunk. I will carpet over the panel with a removable floor mat style carpet cover for access.

The panel is recessed into the sound deadening so it will not be noticeable under the square weave. I made it large enough to service the proportioning valve and brake light switch without crawling under the car in case of emergency or road side maintenance. Oh, the bottom of the access plate is polished...

On 40's with the under floor with the MC and booster I just fill the orig hole and move the factory round plug back centered over the MC-works fine

In my T Bucket, I cut my hole out. I attached the removed piece of fiberglass to a sheet of metal cut slightly over sized. It fits flush to the floor. K.I.S.S.
