I have a question about what has been described to me as under slung suspension, where the front clip is flipped over and the springs and axle are on top of the frame. Does anyone have opinions about building this setup and especially about driving with it. Problems, benefits or advice. My good friend is thinking of doing this on a '38 Chevy PU. Thanks. I found one picture of what I'm talking about.
About 10 yrs. ago I talked with Neal East, shortly after building his T modified, and as I recall he was satisfied with the setup. I know he put a lot of miles on it and he certainly has driven enough hot rods over the years to know good from bad.
Well with the frame horns turned up like that you wouldn't have to worry about 'em diggin' in and doin' an endo if something breaks. I've ridden in a few set up like that, the hardest part of makeing it right is getting your spring rates worked out. They aren't as forgiving as a more conventional setup. Most they I've been in ride like a lumber wagon. But when they are right they are so right. I actually caught a ride in an old Bugatti with that suspension setup and it was as sweet as can be.
