What is the other end of that rope attached to?

I'm mostly just posting so I can keep track of this thread. Nice work so far.

hey you found me! the rope was a quick attempt to find the IC. after looking at that tubing i put on the axle for a few weeks now i really cant stand it. im just gona put the bars wide on the axle and narrow on the frame with some bunny ears. i have to take out that lower frame cross bar anyway since it was just there to keep stuff true and aligned. it will hit the shaft. if i put a crossmember there i think ill solve 3 problems. drive shaft loop. some where to attach the upper link bars. and it will keep the frame strong.

Mounting the bars wider on the axle and narrow on the frame is a better approach. Your roll center will always be in the same location and will
    be more predictable in turns.

Clean welds. What type of MIG welder are you using? I'm digging the project more and more.

i dig your project. excellent info! what i was curious about though was, how can someone lay down such a beautiful straight weld bead, jiggle a camera and get such blurry pics.:D:D:D

You'd be surprised. I have a rather unsteady hand when performing every day tasks. I make myself nervous when I shave. But as soon as I pick up my TIG torch, or my MIG gun, it steadies out pretty good.

Pretty close to the truth. The American Underslung was one of the cars that was aimed at people with disposable cash to spend on a more sporting car.

They didn't compete with Fords for the market at the time as they were high end cars. http://www.supercars.net/cars/2971.html

It looks like they were not all that successful on the track either but the early roadsters sure were and are beautiful cars.

I aim to follow the thread to see what the finished product turns out to be. I hope you don't let us down in that respect. I think the biggest complaint from the vocal complainers at the start of the thread was that you might be taking what is and can be a damned nice car and turning it into another ratrod.

The underslung frame may be the way I go with my 2 seat vintage "styled" race car though. If I can figure how to get it to be above the scrub line as the State Patrol in this area are hell on wheels on scrub lines.

Quite simlpy the frame is hung by the springs as opposed to the frame sitting on the springs

Question - On your rear suspension it appears you're using a 3-Link, yes?

If so then you might want to move the link to the right side axle tube (if not being centered over the housing in its final placement) instead of on the left side tube as it appears in the picture.

It'll work better there with the natural (vehicle) dynamics of/during acceleration.

Interesting project, I am enjoying this thread.

Nice job on the rear Scotty, lots of good quality work. Only thing I'd maybe do a little different is put bracesfrom the main rail to the middle of the kick. It just looks like a weak spot having the whole rear of the frame tied to the one tube welded to the end of the frame.

I never caught the link on the left. It would be better. Your geometry looks good otherwise.

I'm wondering how this one worked.

With the upper and lower arms pointed down, there is squat built into it. Lots of wheelhopping potential there. Be way better having the lower arm brackets on the housing longer.

    >>> I'm wondering how this one worked.>>>

Unless my eyes deceive me it looks like the lower arms in that pic are more downhill than the uppers - No anti squat there.

Unless the center of gravity is really really really low that particular car will likely have lots of body roll (requiring stiff rear springs) as the panhard bar is pretty low also; the rear roll center is low and offset to the right as it is laid out there so one rear spring will have to be stiffer than the other to compensate.

These underslung jobbers are definitely interesting just the same :)
