Absolutely correct.......... but a spring is a spring no matter which direction it is working, and is bound by the principle that "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" (also the words of a very wise man...).

^^^^^ This is the bit that most are missing, especially the part I have highlighted in red.
It will work, but only with the spring leaves stacked in the correct fashion.

Whole lot of experts on here that never tried it themselves...

I thrashed this car for about 10 years with thousands of miles and never had a single problem, did 85 on the interstate and regularly took it down the most awful back roads I could find just because it was fun.

Just stack the leaves correctly, try to keep the leaf pack as flat as possible and make sure you have your shackle set up the right way so it doesn't restrict smooth motion.

I'm sure I have a handful of threads on here from ancient times when I built it, I can see if I still have the list of links somewhere.

Firstly, I appreciate all of the comments and feedback. the picture is not of my car/build, but rather simply an illustration of an underslung front suspension that is also mounted onto of a "flat chassis", which is exactly how my frame is made. The body is a 1958 Morgan and due to a number of body and chassis constraints neither a traditional leafspring or other traditional frontends will work. I am sure that there are a number of custom made solutions but working on a budget and quite frankly I am not the most auto-literate person I have been looking for a reasonably straightforward solution as a mean to end to get this car on the road before i die! The suggestion of a gasser front end appears to be exactly what i am looking for. The springs will be custom made by Pohl Springs here in Spokane and depending upon where the final axle height is will determine whether or not the axle is placed above or below the spring. Are there any underslung suspension cars in or around Spokane as I would love to look at one first hand and also what is the sentiment regarding placing the axle below or above the spring? Thank you.
