Hot Rods Unearthing 1950’s hotrod paint on a chopped 1932 5W coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Jan 8, 2024.

  1. Hello all. I bought this old hotrod 1932 5W a number of years ago. It was rattle canned flat black decades ago, and I knew it had old paint under it. Over the weekend, my 9 year old son and I wet sanded about half the car, revealing its lid 50’s Golden Rod Yellow paint and some old pin striping. It still needs a lot of time getting up close to body lines, pin stripes and some corners, but we will get there. It also needs a good polish, being wet sanded, it’s now very dull. I have pics of this car in 1957 with this paint, I’m not sure when it was painted but if the color is really Golden Rod yellow, that would be mid 50’s.

Car is a project and just mocked up, but it’s fun to put a little life into it.

  2. Here’s the car when I got it. I had no idea of it’s history when I brought it home, but the striping on the trunk lid gave the clues to being an old Spokane hot rod

Any deuce 5 window rotting away in a field behind a barn is the find of a lifetime, let alone a '50s hot rod!
    Well played my friend!

I remember this when you got it...those old pics are priceless...I can't recall if you were bringing it back to Bobbed rears and cycle fronts...I hope so but that's your call of course...love the detective work...

Looking at those pics again you have several choices it looked good in all of them and in your typical way with these it is really looking the part already...

That's cool! Instant gratification with a little sweat equity. Awesome that the striping is signed as well. Have fun with the unveiling!

Every time I see a car like this I wonder, how a finished rod gets left outside to rot after all the work and money that went into the build.
