Well I've been sucking off of unemployment and skimming by check to check

Falling a little behind on the bills

Oh, and some douche mechanic blew up the motor in my daily driver and lied about it, so I've got an expensive rebuild ahead of me and haven't had any luck saving any money to fix it.

Someone offered me 10k for my model t sedan
    my first hotrod build
    I'm considering it

There's alot of things I would have liked to do different to it
Maybe I can just start another and use my first as experience

I've asked friends and families opinions and it's about a 50-50 split

    Damn aircraft industry...breaking up families

Cars come and go. My family always comes first. My 2 cents

  3. Do what you have to do. There are thousands of cars out there. Sell it, move on, and provide for the family. Possessions are waay down the totem pole. A roof, food, and clothing always come first. I'd sell all my shit tomorrow if I had to and not think twice about it for my family, it's not even a question. I can get another damn car later.

sell it, buy another starter for a couple g's, start fresh and do the things differently that you'd like to, and pocket the 7 or 8 extra g's for tough times.

    my opinion.

I've already got parts and bodies to build another. I've got a chopped 31 sedan body and a 31 sport coupe body. I'm a little leary on buildin them though because neither of them have subrails...and when I built the T the subrails helped SO much...Cars do come and go...bills come and stay. Thanks for the input thus far!

Sell it. I feel your pain. I just sold my 85 corvette F/C, I have owned it for quite a few years. Take care of your family, remember you can replace the Model T, I know, I know, but take care of business now. The economy sucks, but hey, it always has. Cars are one thing, family is another. BTW, I would cut my balls off for that corvette, but I'd give my life for my family. Lippy

Family first as many have said--there is always time for another car-

  10. 10 grand for a hot rod in this climate is just about right. Sell it, pay everything off , start again.

I'm in the same boat unemployment-wise, but without anything worth 10k to be able to sell...tell the guy 11k and take the 10k if he won't come up in price a bit...you might not be able to sell it later when you need to, so put it in a savings account and only draw out what you need to get by, maybe you'll find a job next month and have 9k left to spend on building a better hot rod...just my .02c from an unemployed machinist...

it sucks selling a ride, but peace of mind goes a long way when you know those bills are taken care of... you'll come up with a good plan for another, or who knows, maybe even get an opportunity to buy it back one day- if you even want to by then...

Cars, bikes, trucks and other toys are kewl, but family is what drives us more than anything, if it doesn't then i feel sorry for them. Only you know your total situation, but i think by asking the question says you know already... Good luck and here's to a better economy and more future rides to share with the loved ones.

Back in the early 70s my dad had to part with his 427 Cobra. Did it for a down payment on a house. Wishes he still had it, but is realistic. Cars come and go...do it for the family. Build another out of what you have to keep you busy and sane. Get some good pics and be prepared to have dreams about it for years to come. Feel blessed you have something worth money to sell and keep your head above water. I had to sell my model A to pay off some taxes a while back...bummed for sure, but then a shoebox ford landed in my lap for free...not the same car, but fun nun the less.

My Dad told me "the time to sell, is when someone wants to buy". If you wait till you're DESPERATE to sell, you'll get screwed. The buyers may not be there. You've got other stuff to play with, so just get as much as you can for the car now. If that's 10 G's, so be it. Family first. I hope you get through this rough spot ok.

Been there.... I got a divorce and then lost a job many years ago.... I 'lived' in the seat of my 74 Ford Pickup for almost a year. I have to get rid of my house and my 40 Ford Deluxe Opera Coupe.... the loves of my life. It hurt like hell to see them go but..... Here I am some 40 years later and I have my house and cars again... maybe not my 40.... but I never lost track of my love for cars. At that time I had no family to support just myself.

Your family comes first, take care of them....then you can get your cars back, they are just items not emotions.

    Take care, look forward...

You've got a guy with money, and serious to buy? Do it now. Cars aren't selling too good right now. You might not soon have another buyer down the road. As heatmiser said, the peace of mind is worth so much. Good luck with your decision...good luck with everything. - Rick

I've been through it too. A divorce cost me a damn nice 32 Tudor and a lot of hard to get parts. Before that i had to sell my cars to bail out the family for one emergency or another. Now six years later i have a car again because i am too stubborn to stop working, to put another one together.

shit.. I've sold everything I have worth selling and still having trouble making it these days. Family first I say... There's plenty of projects out there. A new project will just be more memories in the making.

Man, I see both sides of the coin. My pops sold his 63 corvette (yes a 63 corvette) cuz he was starting a family and wanted to buy a house in the 70's when I came along. Well four Vette's later he's happy but I know that was the one that got away, He did it without hesitaion and he would do it again, but being his son believe you me if I ever had the opportunity, the first thing I would buy for my old man is a 63 Vette to show my appretiation. Cant go wrong with investing in your Family.

Why not sell the other bodies and stuff you have first? or offer to build one of them for him for the same price.

I'd get rid of anything you owe money on first, then any parts before I'd sell a drivable car.
