Hi Folks, Those of you that went to the LA Roadster Show with us will recall that while we were there we met some great fellows from Australia. They ended up eating dinner Saturday night with some of you and some more of us were already there when they arrived but at another table. Anyway, I mentioned that some fellow down that way had long ago decided to make me an honorary member of the Australian Street Rod Federation and sent me a patch which I have carefully filed away... somewhere! One of them said that since I was a member “sort of,” he would let me in on a recent development in their country that had come about because the car manufacturers were having such a difficult time. He said that the manufacturers of Holdens(Chevrolets by another name) and Ford had come together since they each were having trouble getting usable parts and had developed some serious excess inventory problems. In an effort to solve their somewhat mutual problems, they had resolved a solution that allowed the use of the many excess Ford heads on the excess Holden blocks. It took a while but I finally managed to get a set of the revamped Ford heads to use on my pickup. I just finished installing one side and wanted to share the result. That is my story and I am sticking to it!! Hope you all are doing well, Hamtown Al
Never let the absence of facts, true or otherwise, stand in the way of a good story. I have a set of Thunderbird y-block heads that fit one of those Chevys....
Fuzzy. let's not start confusing the fellas! Hope all our brethren along the east coast are safe and dry! And with no new fallen tree decorations on their homes or garages! Thanks to those in the storm's path that have checked in with their status. We all share concern for our fellow car enthusiasts and HAMBers. Still looking for my AHRF patch... it has the guy's name with it too, I think!! Al
I had "adaptors " on my 300 horse 327 . Everybody in my world wanted to know : "why would Bob put a small block Ford in his Forty coupe..? " I didn't .. (Ford valve covers are cheep )
I can lie start - it's the straight bit that gets us every time! Either thats a small block, or your motor is in backwards!
These Australian Ford engines are quite rare in The States and I'm particularly grateful to my pals for enabling me to have the revamped Ford heads for my Holden... er Chevy. I did find my AHRF patch, by the way, and Steve Wilson was the kind mate that sent it to me some years back along with a few Aussie hot rod magazines. I don't remember at all why he thought I might be deserving of the honor of having a genuine AHRF patch but I'm glad he decided to share one with me. Kind of neat to see this old thread come back to life. I've posted this picture elsewhere of some Aussie folks that hung out with some of our 2016 Roadster Express Mid-America Tour to the LARS in 2016. Here we are at dinner at LARS 2016. Great times... wish we could do it again.
