I recently picked up a pair of Indy uni lug slotted mags w/ both 4 1/2" and 4 3/4" bolt patterns. However the lug holes in the wheels are rather eggs shaped so if you are running 4 1/2" bolt pattern the shank Dia. of the lug nut needs to be . 11/16" and if using 4 3/4" bolt pattern the shaft Dia. needs to be 5/8". Thus my problem so far trying to find the 5/8" shaft size lug nut. Called Jegs, nothing, didn't see anything on Summit and Lug nut king has nothing. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience on the issue. Thanks!

  2. Do you have the eccentric washers?

I don't have the washers and the wheels are not recessed for a flush style washer. The holes are nicely machined and it appears that the correct shank size is what centers the hub to the wheel. I'm thinking the wheels have been used but likely w/ the Ford BC which uses the larger shank lug nut.

Never saw a 5/8 shank style mag style lug nut. Simple job on a mill with a rotory table to open up the small end. Do that sort of thing all the time.

  5. There are two different style uni lug wheels with one not having recessed washer pockets. Here is some information from another thread
Where the confusion lies is that there are several different styles of Uni-Lug slot mags.

If the machined recess over the oversized lug stud bores in the wheel is oval, then you need the correct oval washer with proper offset for the lugnut to fit the machined recess and to adapt to your wheel pattern.

If it's simply an oval bore the width of the mag wheel lugnut and the wheel is without a machined recess the round CenterLine style washer works fine there.
This style of Uni-Lug is the one I run into the most.

I understand some of the guys who have wheels with a specific bolt pattern - IE: Ford 4 1/2", Chevy 4 3/4" etc. - have been drilling the original holes to oval duplicating the oval bore without machined recess while retaining the width of the mag wheel lugnut.
Said mag wheel lugnuts for the street being 11/16" on the round area.

There are some larger mag lugnuts for racing purposes because some race cars use a 5/8" lug stud.

This is an American Racing uni-lug style wheel (5 1/2" x15" fwiw) with the oval bore and no recess as noted above.

Disregard the differing heights of the mag lugnuts.
Done to show what's required for a hubcap to mag wheel adapter article I did a while back.
The drilled and tapped holes are for the adapter.

So far it sounds like I need to either enlarge the holes in the wheels to fit the 11/16" shank or turn down an 11/16" shank to 5/8". If that is the case so be it but in seems like the original intention of the layout was to accomodate that particular size lug nut. No? Thanks for your feedback!

  7. The size of the shank on the lug nut is determined by the washer and width of the wheel hole. What is the width of the lug hole on the wheel. In the case of your wheel the washer my not be eccentric. If you search on Google you should get an idea of how the system works with your style wheel. If you can post a picture it would help.

Sorry I lost the picture capability temporarily. Think of looking down at the lug hole, an 11/16" hole drilled and partially overlapping a 5/8" hole. So one end of the slot 11/16" dia. and the opposite end of slot is 5/8". The latter being on the outside to accommodate 4 3/4" BC. hope that makes sense.

EZAccessory.com seems to have every lug nut, washer or stud ever made. I bought my ET unilug washers and nuts from them
