Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SEISXSEISXSEISX, Apr 22, 2012.

  1. I picked up this gauge panel for my Phaeton build today at All Ford of Campbell's swap..Other than it looks really cool,in working order and fits a 32 style dash, all I know about it is that it's English made.Early Austin was something a guy at the swap mentioned, but I can't find anything.Heres the photos of it...

This is a really good looking cluster! You may want to consider re- screening the speedo face a d use a ratio adapter to get to a more usable speed range.
    Nice find!

Dual ammeters? Never seen that before in a car.

Both can indicate charge (+) and discharge (-). Why would you need that on an ammeter that measures starter amp draw?

  9. Thanks for the advice swissmike, but since its going in my banger powered Phaeton build,i'm not too worried about the speed range...

    Yeah, not buying that one.

Even though I would expect a 1.2L limey starter to be weak sauce I bet it draws more than 20 or 30 amps.

As was already pointed out, the starter draw would be a one direction gauge. I have never seen the starter draw indicted on an operator panel gauge. Not even in aircraft.

The two gauges would tend to be used when there were two discrete systems - 2 batteries, two generators and two load systems.

If someone actually knows the reason for the two gauges, I would be interested to hear it. I do recall some early ambulances with two charging systems & batteries.

and a strange lack of a petrol guage... my guess is someone swapped out the petrol guage at some stage with something they had on hand
