I notice that Mallory says not to use solid core wires with the Unilite distributor. I did a search on here and came up with this. [ QUOTE ] Solid Core plug wires are a multi-stranded copper wire, like your typical electrical wiring. They cause radio interference, which is why Pertronix wouldn't recommend them. [/ QUOTE ] Is there any other reason? Will it fry the distributor?
If you have solid core wire, just use them, but your radio will possibly sound funny. In some places, like maybe CA, solid core wires are illegal for just this reason. They cause too much interference. It's pretty hard to find solid core wires at a shop. Mike
Well***** if that is the only problem I will run them. I was worried that the resistance or some***** would screw with the electronics.
The solid wires have been illegal in the whole USA since 1955. Outlawed by the FCC. Even race cars don't use them any more. They can cause problems with electronic ignitions, RF can burn out some of the circuitry, not to mention they don't have enough resistance.
I wouldn't run them on ANY electronic ignition. As mentioned, the RFI (radio frequency interference) can cause havoc with electronics (ignitions, ecu, radios, etc). There's a litte more to it than just radio interference...
