Has anybody used or have a good reason for their opinion on Unisteer products? I'm planning on putting power steering on my 55 Thunderbird and their price seems really attractive compared with other systems, rack and pinion or otherwise. So I figure there must be a catch like poor fit or increased turning radius, or what ever.
Any input to help me make a decision would be great.

    Thanks
    Don

Put a Maval (Unisteer) rack on the Nash. Very good quality.

I just installed a Unisteer Rack and Pinion conversion kit in my '30 Ford Roadster.
I bought it from Speedway. Workd great. No bump steer. Bolted right up. So much better then the Vega steering box.

Actually I was worried about making my already too wide turning radius worse. One of the Rack and Pinion kits said it had a 4" travel ($299), another said 5 1/2" travel ($369). I bought the second one because that was the same travel as the Vega box. Guess what? It now turns much tighter, like a normal car. I think the Vega box, which only had 400 miles on it, was flexing internally eventhough it was adjusted correctly. Obviously, there are alot of lousy repro Vega boxes out there.
Also, with a 4" dropped axle you will need an adaptor kit for about $41. It's there on the Rack and Pinion Kit advertizement at Speedway.
One more thing, the Rack doesn't hang any lower then the Vega box did.

  7. I know a guy that put one in his bagged 49 Ford with a flatty. He was shocked how well it works with normal turning radius.
