Call the number I posted and have them set your stuff with ours.

I'm a little shocked that with the "Viv La HAMB" that normally goes on with the HAMB that someone that lives out there hasn't seen this and volunteered to go pick up our stuff.

I'm not familiar with California at all as far as where towns are in relation to one another. Is this place close to Circle City Hot Rods? Or Savage Speed?

They are in Riverside, correct? That's pretty far from LA, Orange County, and San Diego. Southern California is really BIG and it is spread out. Riverside is probably a hundred and fifty mile drive, one-way for me....Being impatient is not going to help matters. **** happens....

Being impatient will help matters if it gets guys stuff out and back to them. You would have to have blinders on to not think that something is up with this business. No competent business person would allow their business to be without phones for going on three weeks regardless of whether they switched service providers or not unless something was amiss.

Waiting to see what is going to happen could very likely mean these guys that have gauges at United may not get them back.

Well first off you would have to establish that there is somebody there so that going to pick the stuff up is not a wasted trip - with the phone issues that is not a given. Then you have to be able to identify what belongs to which HAMB member and to where it should be sent. Then you have to make sure that the owner is willing to hand the stuff over to a third party - (possible liability issues?) which may require a release or a note from the owner of the parts - if indeed he is willing to hand the stuff over, and who is to say that you do not pick up the wrong parts? So and so's gauge may be one of several of that kind in there so you would need to identify the correct one.

It is not such a simple task as you make it sound: show up unannounced, collect parts and leave.

I just spoke to Rick about my tach that is in their shop. He gave me a report on what was apparently wrong with it, a cost to repair it and said that if they could not repair it there would be no charge. Sounds like a straight up offer to me.
Hoping that this might take a little stress off some here that have gauges in their shop. Appears they are still in business.

Maybe schedule UPS or FedEx to pick it up? I don't know if you can do it like that but might be an option.

I am near there, but my daily is down and out, so I am home bound right now.

So if someone is near riverside, San Bernardino, Mo Val etc. But L.A. is a couple hours away on a Friday afternoon, and San Diego is even further. Not sure EXK is able to get up there or not. it is a good 45 minute drive from Menifee/Murrietta but doable.

I did that. Read the second paragraph of post #79, and #2 of "two things."

I never said this was going to be that easy. And it is asking a lot. But all of the folks within this thread that have gauges there have some things in common: A. We are ALL HAMBers. B. We're all in a jamb. C. We'll all be out tall coin if we don't get our stuff back.

The HAMB is a cool place Weasel. Next time your broke down on the side of the road and have someone on the other end of a cell that can post on here, put out the distress call and more than likely within as little as an hour (and I've seen this), and NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE, you could have some guy you've NEVER MET BEFORE show up with parts, tools and more than likely a trailer to help you. Why? Because you're on the HAMB. This is the same s****e. Only this time, it's a bunch of HAMBers, from all over the country that are in a hard way. Shops, individuals, but all HAMBers.

Don't shoot the messenger, dude...If you are so hard up to get your parts back, just fly out here and pick 'em up yourself. Geez...
I went through this exact same thing last year from an instrument rebuilder back east. It happens...:)

I hope they are OK, they rebuilt/modernized the gauges in a '37 Ford pickup for me and they are outstanding.

I don't have parts there I was just pointing out that sitting back and waiting for everything to unfold might not be a option for some of these guys. Yeah it happens but some of these guys have been entrusted with other peoles parts that they have then entrusted to United and if it was me I would be worried about not getting them back as well.

Didn't want it to come across as an attack on you and I'm sorry if it did.

I'd like to think that none of us are attacking one another. That's just immature. You are right. I have stuff there that's not mine. It's customers parts. So I treat them like they are mine. That's the way I was raised. You treat other peoples property as if it's way above your own stuff. But in the end, I'm the guy that's out the dough if I have to replace a customers item. And I'd sooner gnaw off my left hand than not replace something someone entrusted me with if it gets lost.

Hey guys, I'm just seeing this...

Riverside isn't exactly a trip around the corner from me, but if nobody close by can get the stuff and it's just a matter of swinging by and loading up some boxes without going in with authoritive devices (I.E. guns and tough guys) then I'll be glad to help. I KNOW there are some good people up in that area that should be able to come through, but if help is needed, just shoot me a PM.

I hate bad business and especially bad COMMUNICATION! There is NO reasonable excuse for bad communication these days. There are tons of ways to get in touch with people.

Shoot... I paid a HAMBer for some parts last week and simply asked that he send me a tracking number when he sends them out (which he said would be this past Monday) and I can't get him to even respond to my PM's. I can't IMAGINE how you guys must be feeling.

Good luck to all of you that have parts there. I'm sure it will work out. Fingers crossed!

Well, having tried to illustrate what needed to be done so as to resolve liability issues, ahead of running up to Riverside for you (a 40 minute run each way on a good day and toll fees, the journey from hell on the notorious 91 FWY on a bad day) I get a lecture on being a Good Samaritan on the HAMB:confused::confused::confused:. As the old adage goes "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". If this is how you respond to people who try to help you...

Way too much drama here so I'm signing off this thread - I hope you get it sorted out nonetheless.

How many of the guys that actually have stuff there have bothered to call the new number listed and talked to them?

Seems to me that everything is OK with them now, they are getting things sorted out and it's business as usual, they have always been a little slow and not quick to respond in the 30 + years I have dealt with them.

Ok. I feel like I've been duped a bit here. I just spoke with someone I have no reason not to trust, and although I don't know them personally, I believe them. From a reputable shop IN California. Willie (whom I'm talking about) was just there today to pick up his Study gauges. The are getting new telephone service. But not the kind I was lead to believe, and more correctly, new telephone SYSTEM. As in, in the building. Like with answering service and all. For whatever reason (I'm not a telephone tech) as the new system is being installed, at some point the old one is disconnected, and the installer is dragging his feet.

They aren't there after 12 reliably, and even then only until 3pm.

Willie asked the same questions I did of Maria, and she said the same thing. New system, not going out of business, etc. etc. I can only hope that those that said one thing or the other within this thread really believed what they were telling me, and there was no maliciousness or anterior motives. Because if that was the case, that's ******** and there is no place for that kind of person on the HAMB.
