Will a universal fuel sender and gauge listed as for 12 volt work on 6 volt? I foiund a cheap enough set that I thought might work for a stock Model A gas tank that has a wood dash and gauges etc over the stock tank and gauge. I read a recent post on here about doing that same thing but I don't recall it mentioning if it was 6 or 12 volt. Thanks, Dave
Here is the thread using Dorman 55818 sender. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/model-a-sending-unit-float.1257713/ Here is ohm range for this particular sender: Ohms Empty: 240 Ohms Full: 33 What is the dash gauge you plan to use? Its Ohms range?
@pprather , thanks for the thread, that's the one. The one I'm looking at comes with the gauge. My question was does it matter if it says it's for 12 volt or will they work for 6 volt as well? Is it just a matter of ohms? Thanks, Dave
I would say no. there are two separate things here. The sender should work with a 12v or 6v gauge. But 6v will not work a 12v gauge.
Here is a 6 volt gauge with link to a compatible (ohm range) sending unit. https://www.steinertractor.com/JDS1910-6-Volt-Fuel-Gauge?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax: (ROI) Smart Shopping - Low Margin&utm_id=17561055818&utm_content=&utm_term=&mkwid=|pcrid||pkw||pmt||slid||pdv|m|product|JDS1910|pgrid||cpgnid|17561055818|ptaid||adtext||&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA5L2tBhBTEiwAdSxJX7vTrYAxVCyJpEm3vtskgtMfrpa4UyTOQwvWj-4otEoc4UcdAFATIRoCptsQAvD_BwE Another choice: https://brillman.com/product/ford-f...6ley8O7E9oofs_dW273Xp__67Fc7B2CRoCjl8QAvD_BwE
@dwollam , has your question been answered enough to allow you to move forward? Or do you need more info?
So, as I see it, the sender doesn't care about voltage or polarity but the gauge does and the ohms must match between the two? Dave
