Bought this ford grille shell for a potential future project. I am pretty sure that it isn't automotive due to its size and the thickness of the metal. But then again it has a crank hole.....so?..... At first I thought it was maybe a tractor grille, but I haven't been able to locate any pictures through a google search that show any tractors with similar grilles, I then looked at bulldozers, no luck there either. Was hoping that maybe there is an expert in ford past automotive that might have an idea what this old grille came from. It's in real good shape and I think it's pretty neat lookin'.
Maybe industrial, like a welder or generator or air compressor on a trailer. Or a stationary engine to pump water or run a saw mill.
BJR is right, it's an industrial power unit shell. Looks to be from a 4 or 6 cyl. one due to the width. I have an old 317" Lincoln unit that was mfg. by Funk Co.; the shell on it is alot wider. Mine has similar factory Ford letters on it.
A local tree trimmer has an old tow behind chipper with the same shell. Always admired it. Thought it was odd that the FORD nameplate was block letters rather than Ford script.
Oh, I don't know....... These grilles look pretty square-ish to me...... A little fabrication skill can go along way.
