I searched and couldn't find a thread about this although there is something I'm sure, I just couldn't find it.
I was wondering what the options are for unlocking a trunk and getting a key made. The car is a 60 Pontiac, I was thinking that you would probably have to take out the back seat and see if you could get it open from the inside. If this works can you just take the mechanism to a locksmith?
    Thanks.

Isn't the trunk keyed the same as the doors? If so just take the cylinder out of the dooe and have a key made. Or how about the glove box lock most of the older GM cars used the same key as the door on them.

Doors and ign. keyed the same. Take the glove box lock to a locksmith and he can read the code and make a key. It will open the trunk. Door locks can be used to make an ign. key. I have done this.

I use a 4 foot lenght of EMT conduit with and old flat tip screwdriver shank welded to the end. Pull seat. Use flashlight. Find latch. Insert custom made tool into mechanism, and turn. Stu

+1 and in some cases the opening is big enough to just slide in there

NOW mind you if the lock is intact ,,you may not be able to get enough purchase in teh hole to turn it as you'll have the exiting rod coming in from the other side.

You can however from either inside the trunk or with 2 3 ft extensions ,,take out the inside bolts that hold the lock assembly to the body and open it that way

Also you don't have to weld ,,duct tape teh screw driver to a pvc pipe or some 1 by,,,the force to open it lock is not that great

  8. The Glove Box if it has a lock, did this on a '65 T-Bird, worked perfect.
