A mid-80s German hatchback is hardly the high point of kustom design, but it's what I've got and it's all I have to work with. Obviously it falls short of a Caddilac or a Mercury by quite a long way, but being in the UK and on a tight budget I work with what I've got.

I would love to share the build with people here on the HAMB, to share what I've done and to learn and ask questions about things I'd like to do. However, I suspect I'll be in for much derision.

Importantly, I've tried as much as possible to stick to the spirit of kustoms with this project, without making it a pastiche, taking direct inspiration from 60s show cars and goth culture. So that means I've looked at things that wouldn't normally be done to such a modest motor like lakes pipes and spats/fender skirts, additional chrome and two toned bodywork. The whole body has been done in coach paint applied with a brush carefully over several days and the unfinished interior has been retrimmed by myself. There's plenty more ideas to go and accessories to fit, but I'm already running away with myself here and going into needless detail about my pride and joy.

Here's some pictures, to satisfy any curiousity, morbid or otherwise ;)

The best picture of the car of his current state is this.

There's been a few digital ideas floating around, trying to figure out what to do within the constraints of the car, my budget and UK modifying laws.

I fully understand if this project is unsuitable for the HAMB boards, I thought it best to ask before making any efforts to show what I've been up to. Thank you for reading through this.

Not even close to what the HAMB is about. 80's anything is bad, fake 50's stuff is worse. Hurts me to look at, please don't put everyone else through that too.

By the way, there is plenty of folks on here from the UK building very nice, period style Hot Rods and Kustoms. If you want one bad enough you'll find a way to build one too.

That's why I asked really, I wasn't sure if HAMB was about purely period customs or if vehicles that took inspiration from them but were not of the period were also permitted.

I'm expecting a fair bit of abuse for the above, really, it divides opinions quite a lot. Not trying to fake the 50s, just taking some inspiration from it and seeing where it takes me, learning some skills as I go so that when I do get something 50s/60s in a few years time I'll know how to do the work it needs.

The HAMB is for Traditional Hot Rods and Traditional Customs.

We use a cut of date ( on the main board... the Classifieds are stricter ) of about the mid '60s.

For the buildyear of the car, and for the buildstyle ( meaning the style in which it was modified )

Sorry, a '80s Polo is completely Off Topic.
