About 40 - 45 years ago I acquired a new power window kit designed to be retro-fitted to a car with manual windows. This kit intrigued me enough to use it on my '46 pickup truck build. The concept is simple. The motor ***embly is about the size of a pack of Lucky Strikes. Remove the window crank handle Select the appropriate drive spud to fit the splines of your window regulator. Slide the drive motor over the drive spud and mount to door inner panel. Wire it up. Good to go. Has anybody ever seen or used such a device? I've never seen another one anywhere. It is such a simple novel solution with nary any fabrication work needed. I know Unus is still around but they sell nothing like this kit now.
Well , ain’t that simple and fancy ! while not exactly eye candy , it’s not horrible and does the job nice , neat and simple !
I may paint the plastic motor cover body color. I also plan to upholster the access panel to match the grey toe kick panels. Someday...
If you take the motor cover and make it into kind of an arm rest ( lengthen it an upholster it it would look fancy
I remember those. ~late '70's, back of magazines and in JC Whitney. I just Googled a bit and turned up nothing. I'm kind of surprised, I don't think they were rare, in their day. I almost bought some once. They had spud adapters for American and foreign cars. Yours are "survivors". Pretty cool. Mike Edit: Thanks SR100! I subscribed to both back then. You could get those for my MGB GT. I dreamed of such luxury !
Had used one that had the motor seperate, and two cables that went to a large O ring ***embly that slotted over the handle splines. The motor pulled the cable and the cable turned the O ring device. You could then cut the rest of the handle spline off, fit the cover and put an almost-flat circular grommet in the door panel hole. That was a tidier solution, albeit more complex. Phil
Vilém B. Haan! I haven't seen that name in 40 years. He used to advertise heavily in Road & Track and Autoweek. he was apparently in really tight with the Ferrari set back in the day. I remember him advertising mostly sports car accessories. I don't remember seeing anything like this.
Washawski/JC Whitney used to sell a lot like that one. Used it and a cruise control on a 1980 Ford van in 1980. When my buddy’s dad got rid of the van after 200,000 miles in 1994 all was still working.
There is an adjustable clutch mechanism in the drive and the instructions say to adjust it so an obstruction in the window will stall it out.
I took a similar, but different looking pair off a Caravan. They are very efficient. I'm not aware of who made them. Right VANDENPLAS?
