Hi all. I have been searching and searching and can't find an answer- I must have looked at a thousand images on google! I want a floor mounted throttle pedal which has the cable/snake attached horizontally on the left side. As a last resort (itd be a good project) I'll make my own ***embly but finding a factory unit would be easier! I managed to find ONE image of something suitable..but no idea what its off! Any help appreciated!
Even though I think those Hot Rod peddles are **** and the action is shakey at best, One can side cable that unit by attaching a cable guide (small pulley with a grove) to turn the cable 90*. Mount the peddle to a plate and possistion the guide so that the pull is in line with the rod/arm and cable mount is 90* to that. Cable guides are available thru Aircraft Spruce
Look at some of the marine/boat applications. They have all sort of weird stuff going on. Most have the base angled for mounting to the stringer, but I'll bet you can find a flat mount or adapt the base to fit.
I got an old drivers ed brake peddle (circa 1954) that has a left exit cable. No its not for sale but they can be found. if you look at race parts like for instance at your favorite catalog speed shop (not spamming today sorry) a peddle like you desire can be found easy enough. That is what I would be doing is looking for something from a race parts supplier.
I know you described what you want, but, would a pedal that had the cable on the other side of the floor/firewall work for you? If so, Lokar makes one.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I think my best bet might be to use a bellcrank and pedal such as this but with the lever turned 90 degrees (to horizontal) to give sideways motion.. The reason they won't be popular (I guess) is that they only make sense for those of us that are RHD. In my car it would allow the cable to go left and then do a nice arc and p*** through the firewall directly behind the carb linkage. At the moment my cable is doing a fairly tight S.. Yuck. I see there is a guy here selling some skeletal pedal castings (that's why I ended up here)..they would be a perfect start to a custom ***embly! Cheers, Nathan (new Zealand)
On point with the aircraft, and bellcrank mods.....but also visit your local boat service stall. They are kind of used to snaking odd angles on throttle response mechanisms. I'm sure you may even luck out with a handful of free......if they have anything "sitting" within arms length. It's been a go-to for me.....on two dune buggy/go cart builds. Good luck !
I'll see If I can get pics of a mockup I made. The pedal came out of my first Model A rod and was saved for a new project. In the meantime, here's the pedal I adapted. An old Ludwig base drum pedal. 100E1504 by Jakesrocks posted Jul 21, 2014 at 3:43 PM
Man that's awesome the drum pedal looks damn good actually. I forgot to post the pic before but this is the one that needs bellcrank modifications... Just an idea. Its around 200 bucks delivered to me.... Might be hard chopping that up! The roller idea is a good one
