I've been looking for a 37 or 38 Chevy Coupe for a while now and as they say, timing is everything.

I sold my '51 Merc a coupe of weeks ago so I freed up some garage space and I decided to bring the 30 tudor in and get started on that project. This is going to be a bare bones project with one stipulation, I want it to drive as good as my 33 PU, but be lower. I've got the body at ride height and am starting the frame design when the "timing" thing comes in.

A good friend tells me about a friend of his who has a "nice CA 37" that he wants to get rid of. I went to look and this is what I came home with Friday. No rot, beutiful sheetmetal. The only panel I have to fix is under the trunk lid. When I opened the trunk, there was a brand new panel.

I've never started with anything this nice!

    Here's where I need your help....opinions please?????

Do I build a Gasser out of it, way up in the air?
    or
Slam it down like my stuff usually is?

This is replacing my merc as my long distance car so I need drivability, but.......

  13. That timing thing does have a way of throwing a wrench in your plans doesn't it? For best driveability and long distance cruiser, low is best. Stick a Must II in there and get it sitting just right with a great ride. However, since you still have the stock parallel leaf springs on the front, it is easy gasser conversion. Forget the stock axle, get e straight tube axle and it will be a medium high gasser, not nose bleed high. Put the rearend under the springs, maybe a littel block if needed, and it should have a perfect stance.

It really just depends on what you want the end result to be. Gasser will definitely get you noticed, but will not ride as nice. Lower will blend in and have nicer ride quality

Nice car Keith. Tough choice about what to do. I think gasser style would be perfect. Kind of like Ted's Willy's. Not to high, just right.

Quite a decision you have to make. I say do a mild gasser style, it will set it apart from the other cars during a cruise. Plus it will give you a good reason to put a ton of horsepower in it. [IMG]

First of all,Keith, HOW THE HELL are you going to get the tudor lower than your truck??? That thing is already on the ground!!!!You'd have to put casters on the frame to lower a car more than you have done and still be able to drive it. [IMG] [IMG]
That being said...... about the '37 ...I say slam it too. If it's going to be your long distance driver ,I would think you'd want it to handle pretty good in the corners also.Nose high cars are fun on the straight aways but not in the corners. [IMG] [IMG]

I have had something in mind while I've been looking and it's been right in line with the rest of my stuff, slammed, slammed and slammed!

It's just that when this one came along, it was already on it's way to bein up in the air. I think the 37 & 38's look real nice up with the attitude..straight axle..fenderwell headers..radius rears...........but!

A few of my friends have Willys and Chevy gassers and I want something different. Don't want the same old, same old which leads me into the usual lowered 37/38 same old, same old.

Let me throw the Tail Dragger custom, skirts maybe a little chop into the decision????
Any one have any pictures of 37 customs they can share?

    I'm getting so confused!!

Thanks for the ideas and pictures guys you were a big help.
Oh yea and thanks for the offers to take the junk wheels off my hands!

The '37 is going where my gut tells me it belongs at least for me......down in the weeds.
I'm starting to feel better already. A big weight has been lifted off my sholders!

With that said, do any of you guys have any pictures you can share of 37/38 chevy tail draggers or customs?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Keith
