I'm trying to add pictures that accurately show my dilemma. Do I have enough up travel without getting into trouble? I want to mount my bones inside the frame rail on my K memebers leading edge. I obviously need to cross to the outside of the frame. These are '40 bones, 40ish dropped axle, A style cross member spring over. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Depends how far back the pivot is .and are the bones level to the frame at ride height , both are not seen in last photo...you could probably notch the frame a bit ..
29" center of axle to center of bone/frame crossing point. 13" pivot point to center of bone/frame. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ok , so remove the spring and see how much travel at the wheel before bone contacts the frame...the fulcrum travel at the wheel is going to more than at the 13 inch point...
I'm going to say no,you don't have the engine and transmission mounted, you are going to have a problem with limited travel. HRP
I'll take one tomorrow. You're going to make me show all the work I have left. I was strategically showing as little as possible.
Hey, hey, quit using those big words, what does strategically mean on a car build? You're just trying to fool us old farts.......I only got a grade ten education........
Sorry for the big words. I'm afraid you guys may be right, I wanted to move them inward to get clearance for the tires and turning. Mounting them outside the frame may create turning radius issues, I don't know for sure though. And there isn't enough clearance between the body and the frame so some sort of "bubble" may be necessary. This build would go ways faster if all you guys and your tools were closer. Here is the beginnings of my K member, wanted to mount towards the front.
Do you have the bones set to provide enough caster? Just asking as if you need more then the mounts will need to be lowered and would give more clearance.
As choptop40 said, remove the spring and see how far up the axle will travel before the bones hit the rail. You probably have enough room.
I have the cross member welded in with castor for the spring and the bones at that clearance are pretty close to correct. I'm off next week, I'll play with it then and see exactly how much up travel I get. How much travel should the axle have? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
