Doing a chassis like this is next on my list so I'll watch, read and learn.

    Top notch!

Lotus 11's are beautiful, but on the small side. Anybody ever seen one with a small block crammed under the hood?

Frank Costin was hired as Lister's chief engineer around 1958. One of his challenges was to redesign the front suspension and steering, which were seriously failure-prone. Frank said that Lister had no understanding of Ackerman geometry, and when the suspension would fail as a result of its poor design, he would simply put in a bigger stronger piece (Lister was literally an ironmonger; built ornamental iron gates). Frank was able to reduce the weight of the front suspension by nearly 50 POUNDS PER SIDE.

Sounds like a truly terrible idea. It would probably crash from terminal understeer, if the V8 didn't tear up the delicate chassis first.

I was wondering if the SBC would fit inside the Lotus shape. Mr. Seret is building a V8 worthy chassis that is going to be covered in 50's inspired bodywork.

There was one with a Slant 6 in it.

    The Lotus Vailant.

And I've seen pics of a V8 powered one.
But it was cut up so much, it didn't even look like the same car.
Probably had a different chassis too...

  9. Matt seret - Wow, How did I miss this thread? ... Very cool! ... I'll be following this build with great interest! ... I dig '50s (& early '60s) Sports Cars almost as much as Hot Rods!

This is gonna be great! I got to see the Legion Special at Billetproof a couple of years ago and was extremely impressed! Can't wait to see this thing!

  16. This is going to be a very radical build and can't wait for more updates.

  17. Oh now you've gone and done it. I was content with the few projects I thought I could get done in my lifetime! Loud under tired American all around track car.

Awsome! I have wanted to see someone do a fifties type racer for a long time. I was just digging through a late fifties Hot rod the other day with an article on a Lister, and remembered how much I dug this type of car. 'Course, the various Loti (plural of Lotus) are always good for a major swith flipping as well.
if any body can remember a basic date range for that Street Rodder article on straight axle versus I.F.S., I do have every copy ever printed, so I can look it up and scan it to here. I do remember that the straight axle car compared very favorably with the wiggly car overall. As long as the chassis is good and stiff as a platform, and the suspension is well srung and supple, all will work quite well.
if you haven't done it yet, get with Elpolako on those Bilsteins... You will never look back, trust me on that! Like he said... He's got a guy that knows stuff!
