Technical Update: Does this look bent?

So how did you adjust the other one that you took off? Where did it end up on the threads? Did it need the washer?

 

Hi , upon reading the first part about getting by for the shows I'd say listen to your motor it's talking to you and you said it - your not happy with the motor . Do yourself a big favor and live a stress free life with a new motor . Your cam is probably worn and those hydraulic lifters are surely shot . 46 years of engines is recommending " Don't play with it replace it ". Jasper delivers to your door or family run machine shops are great

 

Yeah just order a new one.

 

Going to disagree , boys,... at this point. If the 327 doesn't smoke , leak, or the cam isn't bad, then why not fix it?
If our friend is working with the budget that will let him have a new engine installed, timed, tuned, and handed to him with the hood closed, that's one thing.
I don't believe that's the case here, and why we're on page 5, and still counting

 

Your almost there, put a washer in, then you will know for sure that you have enough adjustment

 

Hey guys, final update. I ordered a Blueprint 350 365hp yesterday that was in stock at Summit. Free Shipping. Who knows how long it would take if they had to put it together with all the supply chain issues (I ordered a side mirror in July and its still not in yet). It maybe the first of the year until we get it in the car. Thanks again for your input.

After 5 pages, I actually forgot that ZZ said the 327 had blow-by. Not surprised about the compression, with very little intake lift.
Maybe the crate deal is best, in his particular situation.The don't install themselves though. Carbs need adding and adjusting, timing set ,etc.
So, maybe we'll see how that goes.

Wow, the crate engine comes complete with air cleaner, alternator etc.
Interesting to see the heim jointed bracket from the alternator to the water pump.

Good stuff, hope it runs as good as it looks. Glad it's there safe and sound. I ordered a single tire on Flea Bay to match the one on my wife's car that was destroyed by debris on the freeway offramp. It got lost by FedEx.

Was kind of hoping we'd see the old motor diagnosis and fix through to the end but you are definitely much better off than nursing the last few miles out of the old one.

You don't need to study this problem, just send your heads out for rebuild and for around $500 you'll be all new and ready to go.

 

We'll see, it did dyno at 372 hp. I got lucky that it was in stock at Summit or who knows when I would get it. I ordered a side mirror in July, still haven't got it.

 

I would have, but it had low compression on another cylinder. Rebuilding the heads may have fixed the issue, (if they were fixable, IDK). I weighed my options and if the heads were rigged, what else is going on? I'm blessed enough to be in the position to start fresh with a (yawn) new motor.

 

So we finally got this motor replaced, by we I mean my buddies did most of the work. Shout out to my brothers Bob and Dave from the Eville Do-Rz. Well well, so come to find out this was not a 327 but a 282 with possibly 327 heads? Which could explain the odd set up.

 

As you say, if you're in the right position to get a new one and be rock 'n' rollin down the road, go for it despite the naysayers. Me personally would have the old engine on a stand and be dicking around with it to get it running better for a future project.
