I'm looking for somebody that has and a lathe and mill or possibly a cnc machine That can make me a fan adapter that goes from the hub to a standard after market fourbolt type fan. I've searched the internet and actually called a couple shops, but nobody seems interested. I had a couple of these hubs around. So I tried to make my own but couldn't get it centered properly. I had a vibration. I will add some more 20240117_070125.jpg 20240117_070141.jpg 20240117_070202.jpg pics of what I've made when I get to work. The thin one that I made was made to work with a short Mopar Clutch fan set up and i'd like to make one for that to work that is very thin. And another one that is thicker to run a straight blade fan. Brian 6618780676.

Anybody else? The local machine shop in town that could easily whip This out closed about a year and a 1/2 ago. And there's nobody around locally That can seem to make anything or even want to.

Is the adapter flat or are you trying to space the fan out further? I might be able to help. Shoot me a PM with some dimensions. There are a couple solutions you could do fairly easily.

Anybody could make it. It's just not worth their time to do it for what someone walking in off the street is going to be willing to pay to have it done. I would bet 99.9% of regular people wouldn't pay what a machine shop would charge to take time away from other projects for it to be worth it to them to make a one off piece especially if they don't have things like dimensional drawings available. Not sure if you do or not.

Hopefully someone like Potvin can help you out as that is going to be your best bet.

Well, Potvin Fan adapter v2.jpg Flathead Fan adapter.jpg V8 definitely came through and in 0 time at all. Made all this for me and it's getting fabbed up soon. This way with being how thin it is I can mount a fan clutch ***embly to try it out. Dennis Frings is sending me one that he has set up that I can try different types of fans so between the 2 I'm set. I posted the drawings up here so that anybody else that's in a pinch that might want to try It can also get one made.

If you’re just in need of a flat 1/4” disc with a Buncha holes in it get me dimensions and I can do it on my cnc plasma table.

I am up in Canada though, so keep that in mind. Offer goes to anyone. Always willing to try to make parts for people for material cost and maybe a beer or two.

For what I am doing with it. It needs to be the small bolt pattern.

Shops don't want to do these small jobs because they have to charge so much. I made mine to mount either a new fan or a generator mount fan. IMG_0011.jpeg

Stoker's hot rod factory does make the hub adapter for your application for the generator but they didn't want to make one for me for the hub.

I have a guy who does all sorts of small jobs in-between big jobs and his personal stuff. It'll cost but it'll be 100% what you want. PM me if you want his info or need my help.

Even the backyard machinists won't work for $25/hr anymore, that's what I got in late 80's.
Storefront shops are $75-$100/hr, also expect to have a setup fee.

Set up is the major cost . I have a Buddy that was a shop Forman in an aviation fab shop . He has every machine you would ever need in his ba*****t . My latest Harley build needed .161 cut off a simply bearing housing . When I mean simple I could of done it just not 100% accurate with rt angle grinder . It was 2 hrs set up , and I did the set up . Time is money to have quality work completed .

    Glad to help!

You're all correct, time is money. Between the phone call between Brian and I, drawing it up and a couple text messages, I might have a half hour into it, but more importantly to me, I was able to help out a fellow hot rodder.

Machining would have taken probably an hour or so to run to the metal yard for a chunk of steel, another hour or so to set up the rotary table, maybe another half hour getting everything sorted out, tooling, etc, and another 20-30 minutes to machine. If I charged shop rate, that would be getting into the $300-400 range. Way too much for something this small, but the time adds up. With work like this, it's not that nobody wants to do it, nobody wants to pay what it costs to do the work!

Instead, we got a part made from a third party for about $30 with a quick drawing.

I have some very grateful friends who appreciate the time I put in making things or repairing pieces for them but they are very good car buddies too. Always be grateful of having a machinist buddy, he spent a lot of money on equipment and time to help friends out, especially when he does it for free.

Well, I got it all in and installed and it works 20240126_135924.jpg 20240126_141820.jpg 20240126_143855.jpg 20240128_151118.jpg 20240128_170649.jpg 20240128_170702.jpg 20240128_170727.jpg Really nice. I had to enlarge the holes on the aluminum hub and tap them for quarter 20.the fan wouldn't disengage sitting there idling, so I drove it up around the block and it finally disengaged. And never got above a 175°. we'll see what happens tomorrow when I drive it to work. Once again big, thanks, go out to Potvin.

Drive the car to work today and a little bit up the road the Fan disengaged and It let the car warm up a little bit temperature wise, so the heater would work a little bit better, so that's nice. On the way home the car ran about 175 and then up the big hill Got up to 180 and that's about it. So I'm pretty happy with it . Much less noise than the big 6 blade truck fan Even though this one is 7 blades.

I made a really nice fan adaptor for myself on lunch and break time at the machine shop I used to work at.
Then I gave it to the plating shop to hard anodize, it came back 20 thou smaller on the critical dimensions, becoming s****. I guess they didn't like me.

  25. That adapter looks great, I like the packaging also. That fan clutch is close, what happened to the chrome fan blade....too noisy? I'm going from a 16" or so stock clutch fan (sbc) to an 18" Flex o lite, fixed 6 blade fan. Hopefully it wont be too loud and just pull in more air.

Really nice to see folks helping someone in a pinch. That’s what life’s all about.
This simple sleeve for my T5 bearing retainer which I had a local shop make last month was CAN$380, but was done I think the next day. I almost fell over, but again shop rate was about $150/hr.
