Projects Update - Making Progress on my '32 RPU!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Harrison, May 9, 2010.

  1. I finally made some progress on my '32 this past week. Got my firewall done, column & drop installed, windshield posts & frame installed, & pedals installed. Next up, the gas tank.

I hope to have it painted by the end of summer & on the road soon after that.

I like the stance very much; what size wheels and tires?

  13. The tires are 450/475x16" & 700x18" - Firestones.

  14. It's an early '60's Chevy truck piece. It came with my pedal assembly. I got all from Eric (vaphead) at Riley Automotive.

Looking good Jim. Did you get your pedal set from Titus or someone else?
Also, I want to remind you that the loan of the Grabowski gearshift knob wasn't meant to be permanent so if you'll just slip it in the mail to me I won't mention it again. It's sure going to look good in the '38.:D

I Must type slow. I see you answered my question about the pedals while I was typing.

Your truck is looking dynamite. I made some progress on mine a couple of months ago, sold it to the WildTurkey, I didn't have the time to finish all my projects so a couple had to go. Yours reminds me of when we did the 04 NSRA giveaway truck. We did a SS tank that was under the front 1/2 of the bed and filled thru the floor. It was shaped to follow the frame rails.

  19. Looks great! The modified was one of the first builds I watched come together on the HAMB, you do good work.

I should probably know this, but what is that steering wheel out of?

  21. I liked that giveaway truck.

If I had the technology to weld stainless, I'd probbaly make my own tank too. I don't though so I'm going with one of these:

Gotta get it here before I decide if it is going in front of or behind the rear end though. Probably behind.

    This modified Nate?!?!?

If so, you've been around a while. ;)

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

  22. It is a Limeworks '40 Ford wheel.

They are an Alliance dealer & can hook you up on some gorgeous parts.

When we did the SS tank under the bed I made the pattern out of plywood, used a Tanks SS filler neck and fittings and took it to a local shop that made SS fixtures for the restaurant industry. They were so good a bending the parts they told me they just heliarc the edges with no filler. It was neat but costs have increased so much in the last 6 years that the price of the tank would probably kill me today.

  24. I was thinking of doing something similar & letting the Vo-Tech school here make it. I'd only have to pay for the stainless if they did.

I might need to revisit that idea....

Very nice looking project! And I dig the stance, too. A rod doesn't have to be scraping the oil pan and frame on the ground in order to look good.

I really like the looks of a RPU type modified, but just like the choice that Fidgiter came down to with his modified, its hard to beat the practicality of having a box for your gear if you're going on anything more than a short drive.

Is that a full length box, or has it been cut down any?

    Later, Kinky6

That's a really cool little truck. I especially like your gauge insert. Where did you get it and what kind of guages are you using?
