I thought I'd give everyone an update on the bare metal 32 Ford pickup that was at Indy GoodGuys and Indy Road Roadrockets Show a couple months back. I didn't have my camera in Indy so I borrowed a couple pics from earlier post by Django and ponchobilly to refresh your memory, hope you guys don't mind. Here is what the truck looked like at GoodGuys. And then at the Road Rockets show with new wheels and a painted firewall. A month later it shows up at a local cruise-in with some red painted wheels and updated headlights and a number 2. Was talking to a local rodder later that evening and found out he bought it. He sold his Model A at GoodGuys Indy and worked a deal on the 32 and picked it up at or after the Road Rockets show. This past weekend I went to a nearby small town show and Goode shows up with a few more updates. There is a little more red paint, some black paint, a new pair of heads and what his girlfriend is most happy about, a floor. I've been talking to him about going down to HammerArt?s Hot Cars, Chili and Beer deal in a couple weeks so we'll see.
Coo' update, but it seems like its pickuping too many details, like the #2 and the iron cross grill. Other than that, it looks like a sweet eary ride. How's it run?
great truck great work......and come on! Now knowbody can have a bare metal truck? Jimmy Shine insnt the first nor the last to go with a bare metal finsh. He just has a great screen printer!!!! everybody with a 32 pickup that has been lowered must return it to the stock ride height before your called out!! Ford called and they want there logo back. to many getting pissed on in those little stickers
Hey, nice thread! Keep after him on the Hammerart open house. I'll be down there. I'm heading down to Lebanon to my parent's to work on the '36, so we'll show up at Denny's at some point.
I'm not big on numbers either but it is his truck so I figure he can do whatever he wants with it. He's having fun with the bare metal, original, no, but not very common. I am curious how far he will take the truck, starting to show signs of his last car. Here it is, you think he is heading that way?
A-coupe looks great, as far as I am concerned. I personally don't like the "2" on the bare metal, but maybe the whole truck will get paint down the road? I don't mind shiny cars, as well
I saw the truck in Indy and liked it. The builder was deffanatly inspired by the truck built by Shine and would be the first to tell you. Many hotrods are built with inspration from other cars, theres nothing wrong with that. I think the improvements are a plus. he is basicly just cleaning up and refining what's already there. I'm just glad to see he's not taking it another direction. In fact the truck would be a real nice piece with a paint job and interior. Back in the day the better cars WERE finished.
Cool truck. I'da been done at the white firewall and yellow wheel stage. With that red engine, it just looks right. (Well, maybe I would include the polished heads that were added later too). JH
Does anybody make an unfinned high-compression head? I really prefer the look of the stock heads, personally.
I liked the yellow wheel stage also, looks by the grill shell and the pic of his old car that it might be on its way to a shiny black paint job!Should look great that way to!!!!!
hey bob, never get tired of seeing your A.....especially one from lafayette where i'm originally from....great rod. mike
You can try and find a set of the "Denver" aluminum heads or a set of EAB heads - neither is quite as high as an aftermarket head, but they've got a bit more than the other stockers. There's always the machine shop mill!!
Bare metal can look cool...although I think that RUSTY bare metal is cooler...has more character! (Although that'd be a tough look to pull off in Detroit...two months down the road you'd have a go-kart! ) I like this truck...more than Jimmy Shine's, actually! (Nothin' wrong with his...I just dig the look this one has going a little more! )
Sweet ride.I would have stopped also with yellow wheels and that setup. It looks awesome.I'm not into the whole number thing but its cool. How do those guys do a baremetal rod?Maybe its just here in NC it would be a bare rusted rod in no time.
Looks like his coupe was done in the fifties show rod look. I like it except the radirs with the wide whites is a little much. But then that is what makes this hobby interesting. If we all did them the same we might as well leave them all stock and become restorers. We build them to suit our own taste, just the way it should be. Remember, there are no rules.
"Does anybody make an unfinned high-compression head? I really prefer the look of the stock heads, personally." You'd probably like the Canadian type heads with C7RA prefixes, '47-8 Canadian 59A equivalent. They come in two flavors--real Canadian Ford, a bit higher than stock iron heads, and Weiand stack car cheater copies. These have the Weiand logo incon****uously place on the area of the head nearest the intake manifold and the same chambers as Weiand finned heads. Neither is currently produced, but they are findable.
Every time I see him something else has been painted. One day it had a gray door, then a flat black door, then both doors. Taillights have been replaced with stock style lights. I've not seen him for a couple months so I can't say what it looks like now. His plan was/is to paint the body flat black.
