Updated my Garage (with a '40 Ford Pickup)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by agshelby, Feb 27, 2013.

  1. Your truck looks great with that combination. Your black wheels helped me with the color choice. I am keeping the stock caps and will have chrome trim rings.

I elected to stay with bias ply for a more vintage look & feel, so I have a more subdued drop front to rear. There will still be a 2" difference in tire size and I will probably have to drop the rear once the new tires are on the truck.

My truck is averaging right around 20 - 22 as well. The AOD makes it a great highway cruiser.

  2. I like the bias ply as well, but I've already got one setup like that, and my 40 gets driven every day, I put 22,000 miles on it last year, I just wanted something a little smoother to ride on for this one.

Once again, I love the color of yours, I almost went that color with mine.

Only thing wrong with it is it ain't sitting in my shop. Very nice truck you got there, sweeeeeetttttttt..

  4. My new wheels are still at the powder coating place - hopefully back this week (and I hope I measured it all correctly).

Since I am on the disabled list as a result of a disc fusion - today I had my son do a little wrenching at my direction.

As I slowly transition this truck from being a restored-appearing stocker to more of a hotrod - there are a few things that just have to go. Not being a fan of chrome add-ons, I started with the removal of the front bumper accessory bars.

Here is the front after - much cleaner look:

While I was at it, I removed the rear bumper. The bumper and arms on this truck are for a car and it sticks out way too far in the rear. I do have to do something with the exhaust tips - that is for another day. They appear to stick out in the photos, but they are actually a few inches under the rear of the bed.

Here is the rear of the truck now:

    All done for today:

Will be selling the rear bumper and arms as well as the front accessory arms in the classified section.

Sorry to hear you're on the disabled list. Your truck is looking great!

  6. Thankfully it is the short term disability list - a couple more months.

  7. No real update - just driving and enjoying the truck. I did get my custom offset rear wheels from Rally America (Great Service) along with the big L-78 Cokers. I am much more pleased with the look. It's really a comfortable truck and I have been driving it 5 days a week now.

I have front wheels/tires but will not fit them until after I pull and rebuild the front end. I have gathered parts for a front disc/dual master cylinder conversion, have a dropped axle on order from Sid, and I am going with the CE steering arms. I am going to rebuild the entire steering and replace the shocks while I have the front end out of the truck.

Just had to post a couple of photos of my drive to work this week -

  9. Everytime I look at your truck it looks better!! Yes, much better without the rear bumper.

Great looking truck. I like the color a LOT. I brought my exhaust out right in front of the rear wheels when I removed my rear bumper and built the rear roll pan. Kept them out of the way.

I like the direction your going with the truck,it's getting better all the time. HRP

  12. I do like the truck - but may have to sell. Haven't made up my mind 100%, yet. My wife is in Dental School down in San Antonio and the expense of tuition and maintaining 2 homes is a burden. It is hard for me to justify the two antique projects at this point in my life. Will most likely be posting an ad here in the next week or so.

Truck looks great, it's a bummer you might have to sell it. :(

  14. After going back and forth I decided to take the "grown-up" path and sell the truck. I watched the truck drive to it's home this evening with more than a little regret. I take comfort is that it is going to a very good home and I am happy that the new owner has plans to keep the truck as a driving hot rod shop truck. The shop does top quality work and will be in good hands.

A sad day for me, but it will help narrow my focus on the Model A and give me a some financial buffer.
