Hey everyone. It's been a while since I posted and it looks like I'll finally have some time to tackle my neglected 53 Chrysler Wagon in the coming months. One thing I would like to redo is the brake system. While it has served me well, panic stops have always been sub-par. Currently I have an Old Daddy front disc conversion and have a Speedway style 7" single diaphragm boosted master under the floor. The pedal is a hacked together unit that I never measured for pedal ratio so I have a ton of pedal throw before the brakes really start doing anything. I think ****ing it up and putting a bigger, dual diaphragm unit on the firewall with a hanging pedal is the right move. I didn't before because I was trying to hide the booster. 10 years later, safety is a little more important than the cool factor. If you guys have any suggestions on what kit to look at I would really appreciate it. I can reuse my master and check valves with some new plumbing. I think I just really need the pedal ***embly and bigger booster. Thanks all for the great advice, NAES
Regarding the excessive pedal stroke, verify the booster to MC pushrod is adjusted correctly. FWIW I went from a single to a dual diaphragm booster on my '58, it made a noticeable improvement in stopping power.
