Yep. And it follows you everywhere. People will know you and judge you by what you've done in the past. Word gets around.

Ruben, I hope you sew better than you weld.

VONRUBEN - I am in the same boat as you - this is a side business for me. I do, however, have a partner that depends on it full-time for an income, so it is important to all that it is profitable. It is also a back-up plan for me, I have always worked for someone else...had a job. There are a ton of guys on this board that have never been laid off in their lives before right now. I decided to do this so that if I did lose my job, I could hit the ground running instead of depending on finding another job....just a thought.

In this economy, you've got a six figure job and your looking to start an "at home" enterprise? Do the work for FREE, seriously, just to get started. Do it for friends and tell them to keep their mouth shut, just recommend you to everyone if they are satisfied. Of course, get paid for your expenses (materiel etc) but do the labor for nothing or a token amount. You'll get the word around a lot faster and it will all be positive if you've got any talent.

I still can't get my brain wrapped around a SIX FIGURE INCOME (and I ***ume, benefits) and wanting to start a business...................if this is the "real" world no wonder Obama want to "spread the wealth around"

IMHO, a bad economy is the perfect time to start a "back-up" business. This country was built on entrepeneurs, and entrepeneurs will pull us out of this bad economy. I saw a bumper sticker recently - Spread my work ethic, not my wealth....well said

Good luck to anyone starting out on their own, i dont care if you make seven figures.....

Lay off it man, the man loves working on cars and doing tuck and rolls, so what if he wants to make a little money on the side.

way back in the day.... OK back in the very early 80's ..... OK 81 ...I worked for a family run shop. they did a ton of dealer work. their way of pricing of a job was ... 1/3 shop 1/3 materials 1/3 labor.... seemed to work for them ok at the time.... so if a headliner in a 82 citation was 110.00 the trimmer got 37.00 rounding it up ... yep had to be fast back in the day too !! oh the good old dayzzzzzz
