I am having the upholstery redone in my 51. I am goping to use a pearl white. The guy tells me that the seat material is too heavy for the headliner. He wants to use a perforated pure white. I don't know if it will look right. Is the seat material too heavy for the headliner? Thanks TP
I've seen our local guy do a headliner in a shoebox with the same seat material, it wasn't that lite weight either, I'm****uming that if you use a good heavy rod with a nice bend to it and prep the outer edges where the headliner attaches you should be fine, maybe find a new shop for your headliner that's willing to put the effort in, I'm sure there is some way to do it. Joe
i just had a car upholstered in leather and the shop did the headliner in leather too. he said it was no problem, maybe you should check with someone else
I do headliners all the time with the regular seat vinyl...As long as all the bows are in place, you should have no trouble with it...Good luck... JP
Gotcha, thanks. I have had them done before but this kinda surprised me. The guys work on seats are really nice. I believe I'll take my chances and go with the seat material. He's getting it from Dennis in the pearl white. TP
If YOU'RE upholstery guy says it won't work, don't force him to prove it won't work. Have an upholsterer who says it WILL work do it, otherwise you may end up with an "I told ya so!" and maybe just because HE doesn't know or want to make it work. Plain white will look wrong next to the pearl white unless it's a regular cloth headliner, and they stay dirty when they get dirty....
I usta work in a trim shop the reason he dosen't want to use the material is it's a****** to work with heavy material on a headlinner, but it can be done. Find yourself another shop or you will be unhappy.--TV
[ QUOTE ] 36 was yoiur headliner a bow type or on a board?TP [/ QUOTE ] the headliner weas attached to the wood roof bows, ..sorry i don't have a picture of it
I recently finished a 61 Impala, 48 Ford 2 dr sedan, and a 56 chev 2 dr hard top...They were all done with regular vinyl for the headliners, and NO problems at all... It is a little more difficult, but it's not impossible... JP
Roadstar, that is what I want. I talked to my upholster again. We were not on the same page. He felt like the perforated would be the best but would not match. He said he preferred the way the perforated would hang but wanted me to know the options.Said he had done the heavier material before without problems. I'm excited now.Roadstar I was wondering wether to paint my dash white and the moldings. I like the look of the colored in your car. I believe I am going to leave my dash and molding the body color.
Contrast can be a good thing. It was kinda the theame throught my 40. There are some more pics of it on another thread after the Detroit Autorama. I'll try and find the link for you.
