I want to do a button tuft interior in my Roadster. I don't have any problem with the How to do it, but the buttons are a problem. The local upholstery show sells little kits for making buttons, but they are too light weight for vinyl.

Can anyone give me some info on a source for these? Or maybe refer me to a dependable shop that will make the buttons for me if I send the vinyl over without the need for surgurey on my pocketbook?

Most any auto/boat upholstery shop will have a button press. I had a bunch made w/ thick vinyl when I did my Riviera's interior. I think he charged me a buck each.

  3. May I suggest that you DO NOT put buttons on the bottom seats.....reason is if you go to get out of the car and you are wearing shorts you will at some time pull the buttons out (I did).....stan

  5. Even Furniture Upholstery shops should have a Button machine...Should also have the blanks for covering....#22 is about the size of a dime...#36 is about like a nickle..
#40 is like a quarter....go from there....Upholstery shop here charges me .25cents each...but I have had lots of them done over time.

  6. Stan, you just need to wear the right kind of shorts.

That guy in the picture reminds me of a guy who owned a 33 chevy 3 window, no idea how he got in and out of it. He was also the same person who ate cake while on the buffet line, well half the cake, and then came back to the table with cake and roast beef on the same plate. I think he was in training.

To answer your question I would try Garys uphostery supply. I just purchased stuff for my 32 Ute from them. Red pleated Vinyl. Good place to start anyway. Friendly, and will answer any emails. Reasonable prices.

Thanks to all for the input. I found an upholstery shop down the road from the office. Went visit with the owner, he said it would cost $.50 per button. We started making them, when the phone rang, he got up to answer it. I sat down and continued making them. I was done by the time he got off the phone. He charged me $10 bucks for 50 buttons. That's 20 cents a button. Not a bad deal! Hell the tech info he gave me was worth ten bucks!

I gots me some work to do this weekend.

  14. Be sure to post some pics after you complete your button tufting.
