Hey guys, im trying to nail down the plan for my 235. What is the most amount of power a stock '56 235 bottom end could handle (after rebuild)?

Im thinking of running custom forged pistons from flatlanderracing.com and a clifford 4bbl intake, with a nitrous spray bar. I know, i know.... but i just cant stand to bolt in another sbc into another tri-five chevy. And i would try to be as covert with the nitrous equipment as possible. I hope to suprise a few folks with a buzzin' half dozen.

Anyway, any suggestions guys? Max power? Catchy name too, eh?

I couldn't bare to see an SBC in my '54 so I'm rebuilding my 235. The guys at www.sissellsautomotive.com are taking care of my rebuild. Actually, they share a building with R&R Auto whose taking care of the bottom and and Sissells is doing my headwork. I'm not trying to push max HP out of mine but those guys can definately answer any questions you might have. Also, HAMBer 6inarow also has been very helpful answering all my questions. He was the one that said that Sissell was the best. Nice to see others rejecting the easy route. Good luck.

www.inliners.org. look for twisted6 (he is here on the hamb too) and tlowe. they are usually on the forced induction thread or the high performance thread. If they dont know it, it isnt worth knowing about 6's.......

then be sure to join inliners

The bottom end should be alright. It's pistons that I went through.

  7. would you be better off with the 230 292 series?? seen some w tripower screaming in stock cars that blew the V8,s away, those upper RPM though are a killer and also vibration,I rember all the air cleaners fly off that 292 one by one in front of the grandstand , it had 1/2 in steel plates on both sides of block to hold it together

There is a fantastic article in Hot Rod Deluxe a couple months ago about the ins and outs of those motors. You have a 56 motor, which is full pressure, so you can definitely build that motor for some good performance. They look awesome!

yea, im real torn between the bitchin 2x1 with fenton headers and aluminum covers look, and the clifford 4bbl route. i have a copy of that hot rod deluxe issue, very nice article! i am just real let down with the abismal hp numbers that hot rod deluxe wound up with, thus my interest in nitrous...

If you are going to screw with 6 cylinders, you gotta forget the hp numbers unless you are willing to spend gobs of money. If thats the case, get on the interstate and go see Corbett - you will see hp numbers that will impress you.
