    Hi all

I've just completed my 12 volt conversion on my 40 ford with an original flathead.

I've got everything working but when I go to fire it up and start her with the starter ****on it wants to start and fire, but as soon as I take my finger off the starter she stops, and its almost like she won't fire to keep running, we've got fuel coming through and I'm using the coil adapter with a 12 volt coil and ballast resistor.

What are we missing to get her to run. Need to get it running as it goes off to get suspension work done on Wednesday.

    Cheers

    John

Further to above, I don't have a wire running from my ignition to my coil, not very good at auto electrical so could this be the problem.

You are most likely not getting power from the ignition switch to the coil. I just had the same problem with my truck. Put a jumper wire from the starter soleneid "+" and jump it straight to the "+" of the coil. Should start and keep running. Make sure the coil is hooked up correctly first and foremost.

    One problem solved thanks Kevin!

Now I've got the car running I have gone to switch the car off at the ignition it didn't switch off and kept running. I disconnected the battery and it kept running. I'm running a new powergen alternator which is getting hot to touch. The alternator is attached to the starter solenoid. Should it be direct to the battery.

This problem is more of a concern! Any ideas????
