Myself and the wife are planning on heading to US from Australia for a few of weeks in December or January to see our daughter who is working on a cruise ship out of Mobile Alabama. We intend to take a 1 week cruise with her, but want to spend a few days in LA and a couple of other places. Any recommendations? Of course I want to visit some rod shops. Are there any good runs on in Dec/Jan?
Just got back from a 6 week US holiday, my last week was in LA. Visited Socal Speed shop in Pomona, shop tours are 11am and 2pm, Eric took me around, was cool. Spoke with Jimmy shine for a while but didnt want to keep the guys from their work. (was cool to see the famous belly tank in a back shed) Not far from Socal is the Wally Parks NHRA museum, some awesome drag cars here and also a few rods. Was cool to see the Bug (not original but a recreation built with some original parts) Check their website for opening times as the vary. Moon shop was cool, Bob let me out back to see the famous Moon Dragster (with the front mounted Blower) and also the Salt car. Not far from Moon is Limeworks, they manufacture awesome Steering wheels and columns, they also build traditional rods and were more than happy to have me look around out back, they are a HAMB alliance member. Called at Barris Kustoms, the front door is usually closed so go around back through the Body shop. George was in Detroit when I called in working on plans with Dodge to do a 2009 Challenger custom. pretty cool shop with heaps of memorabilia, you'll also see the Original Batmobile, other cars vary but the Bat car doesnt move (they have a copy they take to shows) Not far from Barris's is Bobs Big Boy, its a Burger joint that has a regular Friday night Car show, ***orted cars, rods and customs also Bikes. the Night we went Carmine Electra was their with her new Dodge Challenger... She is every bit as Beautiful as on TV. Petersen Museum is also a must, variety of cars there from vintage to modern, Hotrod display changes occasionally, Roths Outlaw was there when we visited also the "Ala Cart" not sure if its the original as 3 days later I saw it at Wally Parks Museum, I will check my pics to see if it was the same. Sorry to go on so long, hope this helped, pm me if you want to know more There are heaps more shops and cruises but I could only do so much seeing as it was my Honeymoon!
Glad you made it home safely! Great meeting you and your lovely wife at the "Time Machine" nationals... sorry I didn't see you at Mokan.. You're allways welcome whenever you're visiting.
