A DUKW story from WWII, a minor note from some book in our library...documented, too.
A soldier in a quartermaster supply company stationed in Wales in June of 1944 had much too good a time at the local pub, and while still seriously impaired picked up a case of black market whiskey, a local woman of poor repute, and one of his companies DUKW's, well stocked with extra 5 gallon cans of gas...
Still very, very happy, he and his new girlfriend sailed around England and drove onto the Normandy beaches 2 days after the assault...
The sequel was not noted, but I would assume he is still breaking rocks at Leavenworth...

Ya.....it's not just for breakfast anymore.

 

I just took a tour around Washington DC in one Sunday. Same company I'm sure. Called DCDucks. Was kinda neat to do. It was mechanically 98% stock. Only thing done to it was an automatic transmission converstion and disk brakes. Other wise they are just like 1942. Even had the OEM GM Gas I6 engine. And we went into the Potomac.

 

The Navy just found out that Aquavit is a low emissions fuel.....and damn tasty, too!! Stockpile it and hide your women and children.

 

Plenty of them in The Wisconsin Dells. Three different operators with maybe 80 DUKWs between them.The driver even lets the kids steer it in one of the lakes. Great little town with lots to do.

 

the Army Ducks in the dells are 100% stock, and some of them are even running the original tires (which is kinda scarry) but its tons of fun.

Sure is tasty allright, but I can assure you that when you see the price we have to pay for the stuff due to government taxes .........sure is no solution using it as fuel.

and if another invasion is coming up...we'll hide all food exept Lutefisk. That will have any bugler allive blowing retreat as fast as he..
....a day or two and we'll be back to normal.
