I'm sure this has been covered before, but I have not been able to locate any post on it. Can you modify 33/34 4dr hinges so they fit on a 5w coupe? I have several 4dr front doors with hinges I would like to use on a 33 5w coupe body, but I do not have the 5w hinges.

There are two parts to the hinge - the piece that is attached to the door, and the removable piece that screws to the B pillar. If I recall correctly, the spacing of the screw holes is different on the sedan and coupe - but you can redrill to the pattern you need and fill in the unused holes with weld. The other issue is the curvature of the hinge piece that attaches to the door - again its been 6 or 7 years since I put fordor doors on a five window coupe, but I recall that a little heating and bending is required to get increase the curve of a fordor hinge to fit the coupe. Good luck with it, it can be done.

Wouldn't happen to have a photo of a modified hinge?

sorry, don't have any photos of the modified hinge. Did this swap on a buddies coupe years ago, and it is not in the same city as I am now. Match the hinge part that attaches to the B pillar and you should get an idea of how the mounting holes need to be altered.

I tried heating sedan hinges on my coupe with zero luck, they were way too different. I ended up cutting the flat part from the pin part, then tacking the door in the hole.

Using a long piece of rod as a jig to line all the hinge holes, I built new pieces out of 1/4 plate to bridge the gap between the plates and the pin part. Hard to describe, but not that hard to do. You will find the sedan hinges are kind of flat, and your new coupe hinges need to have a lot of curve around the pin boss.

If you can find a pic of.coupe hinges that will give you an idea of what you need to do.

    Good luck, -Abone.

Thanks flamedabone. I can get a 5w hinge (just not a complete set!) to use as a pattern. Just checking to see if this has worked out for others before I dive into it. Actually guess you can build or modify anything into anything with enough effort!
