Other than having the main leaf narrowed to 36", and either removing or narrowing the second leaf that wraps the eyes of the first, what leaves have you removed to achieve a good ride?
I just fitted a CE front axle to my 40 coupe.....I used a reversed eye spring from Posies. The stock 40 spring will not fit without modification.I retained the original 40 wishbone and shortened each leg by 15/16".( as you close the bones together they lengthen in effect ) This allowed me to bring the bones in to the 35 1/2" perch centres of the CE axle...then heated and tweeted the spring perches until parallel ...the new spring then fitted straight on.Also reworked the original sway bar and made that fit , a set of tube shocks was also fitted using an aftermarket spring perch that are used on 32's etc...I had a steel pin made that fit the perch eye and fabricated upper shock mounts. Not a lot of room to get it all in but it all fits and seems to work.
X2 on the posies spring. You will probably spend just as much to get your old spring to work as buying a new unit.
Thanks for the responses. I am going to start with the good original spring that I have. I know that Olscrounger recommends it and a good friend locally [who is no longer with us] ended up using his original 39 spring in his 39 coupe after trying several aftermarket ones including a monoleaf. I drove his 39 after he modified and reinstalled his original and it is the nicest driving 39/40 I have ever driven.
You can buy the correct length new mainleaf from CE and use the rest of your stock spring. I removed the one next to the main leaf and the 2 shortest leafs leaving 8 total.
