Wax free Resin is usually referred to as "lay-up resin". You can find it at West Marine stores, or from US Composites. It's for structural multi-layered projects.
The stuff with wax is considered "finishing resin" and it helps leave a smoother surface, like gel coat.
If you're doing multiple layers of fibergl***, using finishing resin, you must sand away the wax, or you will get delamination between layers.

Actually acetone is very tough on humans. Adsorbs right through your skin into your bloodstream where your liver then has to deal with it. Wear gloves for sure!!

Wear gloves that thinner does not permitate, some of the gloves just dissolve in it.

They make two versions of polyester resin for fibergl***ing. The first is laminating resin which is what you use for building up the mat/cloth part. Then there is finish resin which contains wax. The problem with the laminating resin is polyester resin doesn't like to cure in the presence of oxygen which is why fibergl*** and body filler seems to often have that sticky top layer. The finish resin has the wax that floats to the top of the layup and seals the cure from oxygen giving a hard surface. This resin can't be used for laminating because the wax would cause delaminating between layers. The wax is eventually sanded off and the part can be finished normally.
