I won a cool old steering wheel on Ebay in July. The seller who is located in Oklahoma shipped it July 29 via parcel post and forwarded the tracking number to me. The trail goes cold in Dallas. The tracking information indicates that the package arrived at the Dallas Sorting Center on July 31 and there is no further activity. The seller was kind enough to contact her local postmaster but that was no help. I have been to several local post offices and I get the same advice from all of the people that I've dealt with. They can't help me and refer me to a 1-800 number which results in more wasted time.......... the last portion of the recording says there is nothing more that can be done. I'm no rocket scientist (just a village idiot) but it seems to me that if there is no record of the package leaving the Dallas Sorting Center, it may still be there. None of the postal clearks that I talked to seem to know (or are willing to divulge) the contact info for this place. I have two questions: Has anybody else had a similar experience with the USPS and if so how was it resolved? Does anybody in the Dallas/FW area know anything about this mysterious Dallas Sorting Center and possibly can help me contact it? I have a feeling that my package is forever lost but what's even more frustrating is that the attitude of all the postal employees that I've talked to seems to be "Yea, so we lost your package. What do you want me to do, try and find it ?" Thanks for your help.
I have shipped by USPS for years and when something gets lost they basically say tough shit! The tracking labels are only as good as the people who are helping you and other than my local small town Postmaster who appreciates my business, it seems nobody cares. Another well oiled machine like everything else the government runs.
Just wait 'til they run your health care! Not sure if this will help, but try finding a number for the Postal Inspector's Office and call them about the problem. You didn't say how the wheel was shipped (Parcel Post, Priority Mail) or if it was insured or not, but those things will make a difference. I'm guessing one of the Postal Employees is a Street Rodder and figured he could use it. No hot rodder would steal parts - would they?
They've been 100% for me for years...even Parcel Post (though it takes longer). My advise is to NEVER USE UPS! But that's another story! Hope it shows up!
They think they got a government job and don't care. That is why the USPS is closing so many locations.
Actually USPS is closing locations because nobody is mailing first class mail and bulk mail anymore Not much junk mail in your box anymore huh? Wait until we don't get mail door to door or 6 days a week then you'll bitch about that....something about this internet thing taking a lot of the volume away....nobody sends letters or even pays bills anymore (well...I do) Anyway...if it was packaged properly and had a good address label on it that didn't fall off it would have gotten to you 99.999% of the time. Hope it was insured.
How long has it been ?? Shipped a Cam to Cali .. they could'nt find it after 19 days the guy got it. If not insure your SOL,,,tracking is only to verify shipping
A while back, I purchased an ebay item and it was shipped right away via USPS, but it took almost two months to finally get to me. In the mean time the seller refunded my money. When it finally showed up I paid the seller back. Found out later that packages that weigh over five pounds and shipping is paid for with stamps are subject to special postal security scrutiny. I figured that meant x-ray, dogs, gieger counters, shaking it and listening, opening the box, etc. That all supposedly started with the terrorist/anthrax stuff a few years ago.
i find that the shipper has to file claims and collect any refunds due. as the intended recipient, you are usuall s.o.l. that has been my expierience anyway.. good luck skull
i bought some parts on ebay they shipped three small parts in a small box when it gets to me it looks like it was run over by a truck and two parts are missing. i had it insured. i went to the post office they give me the run around and say i need the original paper work that the shipper has so i get in touch with the guy he sends it USPS and it never makes it to my door.i go back to the post office try to get some help and explain every thing.i show them the tracking numbers and paper work from ebay where i paid for insurance and everything.what ive learned is if you want something shipped use FedEx because those sorry good for nothing government employees don't give a $@^*!!!!!!!
If it's at the recovery center forget it even existed .Im out 90.00 dollars over some Manifold I sold on Ebay It was a Tr1 dual quad. Acted fast sent pics over and a detailed description. I sold it for 180 .I would of one the paypal dispute. But the guy was real cool about it.So I split it with him.Has been 7 month's and still waiting for my shipping money to come back to me .They promised I paid 50.00 for it 18 years ago and listing and selling fees.now anything over 100 I get insurance. Dude I feel your pain
2 weeks to get a edmunds intake from eastern new york which is the neighboring state to me in CT !! I do think it's not looking too good with the july 31 arrival at Dallas, and still no show. Check all the cars in texas , cruises & shows, it's not really lost
If it's at the recovery center .The post office don't even have there phone number and they auction off your stuff anyway. They only have a fax number One of the locations is in Georgia,That's why they are like tough shit they lost your stuff.Their system sucks.Im going off the computer now .You just got me depressed. I lost 90.00 being a nice guy.My advise for you is Its a dead end move on.Sorry to tell you this.I went through all the procedures sent pictures and detailed info The same day I got contacted .It was only lost for a day and it went from feasterville to langhorne then to philadelphia .I live within driving distance to philadelphia Why do they ship the lost items to georgia .And their is no phone number .Look up mail recovery center at usps.com
If it disappears within the mail system it eventually winds up at a mail warehouse ( Used to be in Wichita KS) and they auction the stuff off. They tried doing it on ebay but a LOT of people started screaming very loudly. I used to ship with the USPS every day. When my insured stuff started disappearing only to turn up on their ebay site I was done with them. The bulk mail center in Dallas is a zoo, my brother used to work there, you would not believe the stories he would tell me about the place. Too late this time but insurance is your only recourse
I've been selling and buying on ebay for years now. Although i've never actually had any thing "lost", i've noticed the USPS isn't very good at keeping track of packages. The tracking # bar-code that's on the package is useless if they don't scan it. Next time use UPS. It may cost a bit more, but worth it. They have 100% track record with me. Now back to your problem. If your shipping address is paypal verified, AND you used paypal to pay for your item, you may be able to get a refund through paypal, since delivery can't be confirmed. If you didn't use paypal, well, you're pretty much out the $.
As a retired mailman I have a dirty little secret for you.If the Post Office loses your package and it isn't insured, they will give you a song and dance but they won't find it.They won't really look for it.They told us to tell the customer to file a "tracer"on it. There is no such thing (or at least its a paperwork BS activity). But the truth is once its in the mailstream it could go anywhere.A tracking number helps find where it was last but does not help find it.As mentioned above, people who work there will not take the time or effort to search for it.It could come up in the lost area but if it didn't have an address inside it or some id they won't try to find out anything about it.Nobody cares at the PO.Managers won't allow employees to help the customer out,as its non productive. It also could have been delivered to the wrong address. The delivery people they have there now don't care either. They leave my mail and parcels wrong and they know me.They just don't care.
I've got 23 years with the post office. 56don's 'dirty little secret' is right on the money! Unless you make a HUGE stink, nobody will look for it. It's not so much the clerks and mailhandlers (worker bees), it's the blatant stupidity of management! Management doesn't care about the customer. All they care about is production. The higher their numbers, the bigger their bonuses! Plain and simple!! Here's a link to the Dallas BMC (Bulk Mail Center). Call the plant manager. You'll only get his/her secretary but the message will get to the plant manager. Keep calling and make that HUGE stink! It will get sent down the line to floor supervisors who will have stand-up talks with the employees to be on the lookout for it. That's your best shot. I'm sure it's in the building, sitting at the bottom of a hamper somewhere. It may show up in a week, or a month, or a year! I've found magazines in the bottom of equipment that had been sitting there for 5 years!! http://www.usps.com/bulkmailcenters/officeinfo/dallas.htm
Something the size and weight of a steering wheel should have been sent UPS or FedEx - often those are as easy as the nearest Staples or Kinkos to ship out - because they have $100 insurance included in the price and a live tracking number that is scanned entering and exiting each facility. The odds you actually get it are slightly better. Parcel post gives the USPS the most time to lose your package, and delivery confirmation is not always even scanned. I bought a few packages from the same guy who sent them media mail - the same thing - and they ran anywhere from one to three weeks to get to me. Everything that comes bulk to me comes via a big bulk mail center near Pittsburgh and when scanned there usually is here in 48 hours. But it's only scanned coming in. And once in a while is not scanned at all. This is how asinine the postal service is. If I spend more for First Class or Priority, my item is scanned and sorted locally and off to the next destination. If I send Parcel or Media - even if it's going someplace HERE IN TOWN - it STILL goes to that bulk center near Pittsburgh (!). No wonder they're going broke. 4 weeks from TX to PA is a little unrealistic, but then again I used to mail things now and then to a friend who lives about 30 miles away and she'd get the stuff sometimes within 2 days and sometimes it took 8. I'd call and raise a stink and keep checking the tracking to see if it makes the next bulk mail center, I'm sure you being in NW PA it will go there next.
I'm not sure wether the Post Office is the training facility for the DMV or vice-versa. Without insurance, you're screwed. Where I live, we have a community mail box. Somebody broke into it and it took 3 weeks to get it fixed. I had to drive to the postoffice to get my mail and when I complained to the clowns at the P.O. they told me I should be happy that it only took 3 weeks, it usually takes 2 months.
