Try looking under a Mercedes or Rolls hood??

  5. Insurance company yards.
I'm assuming you don't want to buy a used AMG just for the engine...so a late-model wreck would be the next best choice.
Won't be cheap anyway you go, as the ins. co. yards take bids from other yards...

Jaguar is your best bet. They're a lot easier to find and cheaper. You can find them in almost every XJS, and ther later ones came with GM transmissions. Made frim 1971 until just recently. '80s engines came with improved cylinder heads.

  7. I disagree. Latest Merc V12 (AMG tuned) puts out more HP in one cylinder than that Jag did in however many were running when the Jag was tested.

BSB knows what she wants, and that's why she asked for a specific (BMW or Merc. Sorry, ROLLS, but they're owned by BMW, so there).

Too, Jag was designed in late sixties, Merc/BMW quite a bit later (90's??), so having the benefit of better technology.

    You can try
    http://www.copart.com
Tick "Facilities", then input your zip. There are others, but that's the one I found easiest

  8. quick question: you are looking for a Rolls V12?...you aren't looking for an aircraft engine are you...

I don't know about Rolls, but MB and BMW V12's are incredibly complex and expensive engines that were designed to run smooth but not for racing. A BMW mechanic I know thought they were one of the worst engines BMW ever made. My neighbor proved it to me. He put over 100K miles on a used 540 without any real problems. He traded it in on a newer, low mile 750il and he had nothing but problems. Super low production figures make for shitty parts availability and really expensive parts.

Unless you're really set on a V12, I'd get a V8 4.0 BMW motor. They put out lots of HP and are much easier to get, service and get speed parts for.

One of those 700+ CI GMC dump truck V12 engines would be sweet, the ones that are basically 2 305 V6's put together. Will take any Chevy tranny, probably real cheap, tons of torque (although not much high rpms, would have to be geared right), plus it's trad enough to be HAMB friendly. A 5 foot long engine with 6 pipes on each side? YES

I sure hope BSB has some DEEP pockets the German 12's are going to be lots of money. BMW engines not for racing...guess McLaren never read that.

  16. I used to be a mechanic at Beverly Hills BMW. Being where we were, we had alot of the V12 cars come in. Those owners are fanatical about them, and will spend whatever it takes to keep them going.
the more industrious owners had parts cars stashed that they picked from.
I agree with looking at Copart. you must be a registered business owner to buy from there. They are nationwide. I can buy from there and will keep an eye out for one.

Thats cheaper (relatively)than the BE110 engine, not to mention trying to make a trans adapter for the EB. But damn I bet the EB sounds killer when all 4 turbos come up on boost!!!!!!

  24. Yes on the surface it sounds like an idea with the Mercedes - but - can you say CHA CHING about a dozen times real fast....The control units and sensors just for this engine can run into the thousands of dollars alone. When I worked at Mercedes, people would come in all happy that they had just bought a used Mercedes and all it needs is....they would get angry and damn near crap their pants sometimes at the parts prices. So you would be better to get a whole car and go from there if that is what you really want. I'm just trying to let you know where the rocks are before you jump in as they would say at the lake.:D Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

A current Mercedes can be 5.8L
    367Hp. ( Stock )
It would put you in the C Engine class for LSR Racing.

Rolls lists its V12 as 6.75L
    435Hp. ( Stock )
Class break is at 6.10 L, so it will bump you one Class up ( B ).

What kind Car is it going to be? ( Coupe, Roadster, Lakester, Streamliner...)
What Engine size are you looking for?
which Record are you going for?

    I think you are right...

BTW, I saw a Benz V12 Engine sell for very little money, not too long ago.

But it was all in parts.

Got to wonder why it was taken apart in the first place, but it sure looked cool...
