I need some information and "how to do" for my project. I currently building from the ground up/part by part a 1930 Huckster and have the opportunity to acquire a 1937 V8-60 and transmission for my project. How much trouble or problems are there to install the V8-60 in place of the Model A engine? The A engine I have needs a complete rebuild and the V8-60 is in running condition and I am currently working on the A ch***is at this time and there is still time to convert. My main goal is to keep the Huckster as stock on the outside as possible with the V8-60. Other questions I have is there any modifications to the Rear Axle/Torque Tube ***embly need for the transmission, what is the best way to attach the radiator to the engine while using the 1930 Radiator Shell, How do you mount the V8-60 on the frame.....ect..ect. Thank you in advance! Joebeeker
hey joe ,suggest you introduce your self to the cl*** first, before ya get busted.should be fairly easy swap.
Thank you for your reply rd martin. I did not know that I had to introduce my self to cl*** first. How do I do that? When I posted the same question on the Ford Barn Early V8 they told me to come there. Joebeeker
I've got a 31 with a 60hp. It's easy. No real clearance issues and the ****** bolted to the torque tube. No cutting needed. Just have two more outlets put on your stock radiator.
I had a T with a 60 and found it to be laughably slow. The Huckster would be even heavier and slower. At 135 inches, there isn't much torque to get things going. Other old boys I know have had 60s in A Coupes and with the 3.78 gears all seemed pretty well geared but only oldsters can cope with the lack of power. Wonder who decided to declare it to be actual 60HP. Seems like an advertising claim. Probably an easy install though. Really light car would be another matter. Good Luck: Fred A
they probably had their numbers pretty accurate; it's all relative to the amount of work being done. if your 60 horses just pull you around all day at 30-40mph tops, you probably feel like you're doing well. trying to wring 70-80 out of one in a sedan with the wife and five kids and the dog in, wellll.... you might feel a little weak. i'd love to see some pics of properly done examples myself! can't beat seeing what it is you're thinking.
here are a few shots of a 28 roadster I started a few years ago... I sold it before I finished it. V8-60's look like they should have come in a Model A, they fit perfect and look right at home...
The Model A guys I talk to, say the 60 is puny. My grandfathers said the same thing in 1937 and both grandfathers took the 60s out and put real flathead V8s in. My grandfathers lived 500 miles apart and one continued to think poorly of the 60 until he died in 1989.
