Found a few more pics of my current axle. The first pic kind of shows a similar "taper" toward the king pin boss. Also found a pic of the V8-60 pin installed on the DRIVER side. You can see how the KNOB acts as the spindle "stop". DD
Here's a couple pictures (neither very good) of my v860 axle with the pins DD is talking about. This axle came from a low mile, complete '40 V860 chassis and doesn't appear to have been apart. Threads/nut point towards the front and the knob (spindle stop) towards the rear.
