This has been on my mind for a while, and have never got a reasonable answer from the folks I have asked. So I have decided to leave it to the millions of experts here. My 53 1/2 ton at one time had, I believe, at 55/56 drivetrain in it. The 55/56 third member is still there, and I know this is correct due to putting a wheel bearing in last year. And it's 5 bolt.
The steering box had been moved outside the frame with some cobbled up channel iron. I restored this. My question is: was it moved for exhaust clearance only? Can a small blk. be installed with block huggers, or fender well headers, or does the box have to be moved with any V8?
Thanks for your time and help, Steve.
