Does anyone have a shop around scramento, that would be able to build me a tube frame?I want to have a frame built to hold a v8 turbo400 trans and unsure of rear, heres the hard part i want it built for a 57 bug or a 69 gia...please dont shoot me..all of you dub guys but hell even with a new motor it sounds like sheeeet, I have little love for the sound of a vw..this thing is going to be a rude rat for sure..I have cash and will be in ca soon..
Not to be too hard on ya,,,but the HAMB,,,ain't too rat rod or VW friendly,,,try one of the bug sites,,,HRP
have you actually seen one with a v8??? looks like hell, and a 2275 with 48 IDA`s is faster in the 1/4...
The ones with the motor hanging out the back look like shit. They look like a dog taking a dump and the turd got stuck. I saw one that had the motor up front and it didn't look bad at all.
I'm sure there is a fabrication shop (meaning HAMB'er that likes to make money) in the California area with the skills and desire to set you up. I personally think it would be cool.
Hell ya, Im a fan of the early VW also. Especially the ovals and split ovals. I say go for it, even though we shouldn't be talkin' about it on here. (reverb2000 is right also.)
tube chassis 94 corvette lt1 motor stock, porsche 930 trans. car was my driver ran 10.20 all day long on pump gas and got 27 mpg. was built as a road car so at the track i did not get out of 3rd
What would it cost to build a motor like that and only get about 300 or 400 hp, compared to a mild V8? Not to mention the sound. That's why I got out of VWs and stuck with domestic iron. The bodies look cool, though.
I can think of at least 10 places just off the top of my head...start with Bugformance or even Google. Don't post up the pics when you're done...those things 'cause sh!tstorms here. Bryan
Try on the VolksRodder forums and look up Walt of Walts customs. Dude is crazy, but he makes some insane cars.
I've got 5500 bucks in my turbo 2180. And your right mine dynoed at 391 hp...But if I could keep a transaxle in it...lol
These guys make it a bolt-in: http://www.prostreetbug.com/ ~Jason And yeah, this thread will probably be closed soon.
Why a 57 bug? Do it to one of the craptacular super beetles of the 70's. Or better yet swap the Subaru Flat four from a WRX. I think the sand rail people out there in SOCal could hook you up with both a chassis and the motor. You's still get VW purists calling you out but the car would be better balanced and just as fast.
I'd have to go with Ghostrdr on that line, if you wanna keep the engine out back, a 2.3L Subaru is scary fast. Another member on VolksRods.com is ReDub from Austrailia. He has this sickeningly fast car he calls the VWRX, tight lil car too. As for the best way to do a V8,... Mid chassis with the tranny out of a FWD 8 cyl sedan. Good balance, keep alot of the stock suspension with some upgrades, and done right it's near impossible to tell from outside the car. Who needs stinkin back seat???
built in 1995 chopped roof 3inches glass nose mid engine. dont have any more pics most i took when building the car was polaroids and got destroyed.
Wow !!Ok then.. Lets c if i can fix this .the 57 bug has a cool stance when you widen them a few inches.a small v8 because dirty hippy wannabee yuppies hate me.and now the why because i am one of those people that are never done with a project, hell i cant even leave a new car alone, the world needs people to un fix what the masses fudged up to start with, or did not wait to come down from the high before building it....No you say what asshole built a pacer!or a lecar
Pretty cool! That engine sounds pretty good. Yeah, it sure is a blast having a gigantic power to weight ratio. Sticking a V8 in an MG Midget or an Austin Healey Sprite would be pretty cool too -- one of the early '60s ones with chrome bumpers, not the ugly pieces of crap with huge rubber bumpers.
Check with Ron Lummus Racing in Anaheim. They can custom build anything you want, and are very fimilar with VWs
Dont cut up a '57, if you want t build a v8 bug sell the '57 and get a common mid to late sixties bug. CBB
What would really be neat is to shoot this video in the daylight and point the camera out the windshield.
I knew the guy in that video. He died not too long ago. He helped me get my 2276/IDA powered 66 bug into the twelves... R.I.P. Mark Herbert....
