I took off on a 4 state backroad vacation to see what was out on some of the backroads I've never been on. I found a lot of old iron but this yard in the middle of TN got me going.
I talked to the people in the store up the road and they said that they didn't think he would sell me any parts. I figured that since I was driving the old Plymouth that he just might let me in but he wouldn't even come to the door. The back porch looked like something you see on tv. Shotgun shells and br*** laid with food and whatever else he wanted to leave laying around. I wasn't too sure that I wouldn't fall through the floor just trying to get him out.

I figured I was pushing my luck getting too deep into his yard. The thought did pop in my mind about him seeing me snapping pics and hime freaking out. Some people don't like that. I took a little more pics than I felt safe taking then booked it.

This is the one that bugged me the most. I had a pocket full of money and here is a car with every part I needed for my old Plymouth I was driving. Bumpers, gravel pans, trim and some dash goodies. Just sitting rotting away. That stunk!!

If anyone wants to give the yard a try all I can tell ya is it's on SR 127 in the middle of TN. Not even sure what the town was called. There was only a few houses and a store down the road.
I went south and hit Ky,TN, AL and GA. I seen some cool stuff and will be running north on my next run out.

At times it rained very hard but I have to say with the RainX on the windshield the old Plymouth just cruised right along. Sometimes faster than it should have. It seemed like this was a shot that happen often too. Gas become the reason to stop a lot of times.

Cruising up the backroad kept me stopping every 30 minutes or so looking at old building or cars.

Just daydreaming about the car life I wondered if this was some kids start at a hot rod. You know grampa didn't toss those bucket seats in there.

I never seen this dog until I was away from my door. I've been attacked by dogs before and this one put a scare in me.

He ended up being a friendly pup, wagging his tail and even showing me what he thought about the new wheels on the Plymouth by hiking his leg up and taking a leak on one.

Shell casings and no tressp*** signs!

The fence is the only new looking item there. I have kevlar and still would have **** myself from a twig snap thinking it was a round being chambered.

Running in the old Plymouth, staying in cheap hotels and eating in greasy s****s was a great vacation for me. I had a blast. What little highway driving I did I managed to scoot on down the road looking for a good backroad to end up on.

The shot is on Jelico mountain.

  17. I think you're damn lucky- If I owned that yard, and I'dve caught you tresp***ing, I'da ran your *** off w/ a shotgun.... nothing personal, but you need to show some respect for another man's property...

lol. The entire reason for the trip was to find stuff like this. I was a little worried but I figured it was worth it. I am from Ky so I do speak a little hill billy so I may have had a chance.:D
The thing about the yard that makes me wonder is what all is in the tree line or behind it that I could not get to.

Don't get your ******* in a bunch. It's not like I was climbing over the fence with a screw driver and vise grips. I had a camera and stayed far enough away that if he did come out he'd know that I was just an old gearhead.

lol The speedo is the only gauge on the dash that works. I have aftermarkets mounted under the dash for vitals. The speedo is dead nuts on.:D
Down south people are more than willing to be friendly when you want to talk. I found myself a few times having to drag myself away from some very nice people down there.
This 48 Chevy was going on the lft when I drove by. Tubbed with a 454

90% of the time when I seen something cool I stopped to look. Old gas stations and old iron are all over the place down there.

I have been by that yard on one of our vacations and the cars are quite a ways back off the road and people stop all the time to take pictures. The front portion of the yard is mowed and everything is very visible. There is a road going down the side. It isn't like you are going into the guys private yard. Quite a stash of good stuff.

To be honest it has happened to me. We had a barn we turned into a rod shop a few years back and the rear of the property sat next to AA highway. People would stop by for a look at the cars or to see if we would fool with their cars all the time. I kept a 12 gauge loaded in the office but felt the need to pull it out on anyone and I never was scared that someone was going to jump the fence and steal a car or part. The way I see it we have grouchy people and then we have decent people that are not afraid to be nice to someone and let them see the cool old car or whatever ya have. I understand what you were saying but I never step over the line of being disrespectfull to someone's land, cars or person. Just with what I've seen of your post here you are the only one I would worry about asking to check out their car. I would still ask ya though and if you raised a stink I'd just say thanks and walk away.:D

That sounds like the one. Have you ever seen the guy? Ask if he'd sell parts?

  30. Yep- same here. Always better( and safer) to ask first. Noone wants to be a blurb in tomorrows local news...
