are the AR roadsters if correct with most parts and matching numbers more sought after as a regular factory 28 roadster? is there any value difference? or is it just another roadster? looking into buyin a banger powered late 40s style 28 AR roadster thats been kept true to being a AR just curious never thought much about the differences until now that im about to buy one. mainly wanna know if they hold their value just like any other early henry ford steel car
I recently sold an AR and there was a definate increased interest in it BECAUSE it was an AR. I'd have to say they bring about 10%-15% premium to an AR collector. The people that asked about it including the buyer checked for all of the AR specific parts.
The AR designation on a Model A means it is an early (Late 1927 - very early 1928) production model. There are many subtle differences between the very early models and the others. Yes, there is probably a price difference between the two designations only because there are fewer AR's around. Henry was still ironing out production and design in the early months.
I'm not sure exactly what all the differances are. I have a ar rpu. My discoverys where of course the left hand park brake. Cast iron out riggers on the frame and rarest i think are the front fenders. Difference being the shape of the fender in the area close to the side apron. The fender is rounder in that area versus more square than the later ones. At least i think that's the way it goes.
Other differences I know of are the open ended bumpers like T bumpers, the wheels are different. There is a fan shroud and lower engine shrouds. The steering wheels and shifter knobs are red and numerous other differences.
ARs also had different generators...I think they were called Powerhouse Generators...something on the starters were also different. Also, the way the engine mounted in the front at the crossmember..there was a raised area on the back of the crossmember. I recall a slight difference in the headlights? but I'm not exactly sure what that was. $$ definetly go up for true ARs. If you have more questions? I have an 86 year old friend who would know...he has two originals. Murph
