Years ago valve cover racing was popular at NSRA & GOODGUY events. Recently The Cherokee Rodders announced they were going to add valve cover racing to the schedule of events at the spring rod run. Anyone ever build a vale cover racer in the past? got and photo's? any hint's? HRP
I built 6, gave away 2 to my friends kids who had a track he used to do at the Rumble in the Country in Ct. show. No rules the gold one was the fastest ! I used roller blade wheels all of them. These are the 4 I have left. They are for sale if anyone is interested. Thanks Ed.
Our Rochester Streetrod Club sponsored valvecover racing back in the 80's. It was a fun Family event. We had 2 classes, stock and modified. I built a modified Chevy Valve cover to look like my 37 Chevy Sedan Delivery I had at the time. My now mid 40's kids had a blast racing it. I let a friend in California borrow it a couple years later and his Brother raced it at a Goodguys event. He scratched it up a bit, so they gave it a new paint job before it got sent back to me. In 99 I took it to Columbus where a Friends Son raced it. No wins but it did get a "Best Bitchin Valvecover" pick from the Goodguys. Last year our club built a track and had a fun event for members. Some of us brought our old racers and several made new ones. We also made some nice homemade trophies. Later this January we are going to have another event open to other local clubs or anyone else who wants to participate. Win or loose, Valcover racing is great fun.
My Buddy, Greg Wing owns a track here in Iowa and takes it to many local shows. https://m.facebook.com/100057077965171/videos/goodguys-2022-highlights/780831470006015/ Enjoy the video.
On a cool January Sunday last week, we broke up the winter boredom with a little Valve Cover racing. A great group of guys from Buffalo joined us with their creations. Old and new friends, great conversations, lots of laughs and sharing ideas. Fantastic time for all the participants and watchers. https://fb.watch/irvpgSGK3c/
Not to hijack the thread, but anybody remember the KKOA hood ornament races? Jerry Titus told me that every Kemp probably should have the hood ornament removed, so they created something to do with them...I guess a copy of the valve cover races. Here's a Stude one I raced, mounted on a Gotha exhaust outlet for a little ballast.
The Cherokee Rod Run is hosting the valve cover racers again this weekend and I started piecing together my racer on Saturday and finished it up Easter Sunday, it's a Ford valve cover and a rusty piece of junk but it rolls. HRP
My attempt at building a valve cover racer, of all the old valve covers I have this is the only one I could find it's a rusty Ford with a few holes in it, it's not pretty but it does roll. I gotta admit my valve cover racer is about as ugly as a mud fence compared to the ones feature in this thread. HRP
